Pro Bass Angler Runs 5 Lowrance 12” Displays

Three Lowrance displays on the bow of Shin Fukae’s Bass Cat tournament bass boat.

Bass Pro Tour professional Shin Fukae has one of the sharpest rigs on tour, and his Lowrance electronics setup is no exception. Fukae runs five Lowrance HDS-12 Live units on his Bass Cat. Fukae’s console setup is relatively standard with one unit dedicated to 2D sonar and mapping, while the other is used for side and down scan with active imaging.

Where his setup becomes unique is at the bow where Fukae utilizes three HDS 12-Live units. Fukae employs two Active Target Live transducers so he can run both Down/Forward and Scout mode simultaneously. The third unit upfront is reserved for his mapping and 2D Sonar.

Fukae has put his high-tech gadgets to good use, hauling in some big bass.

High-Tech Hunting

With the HDS-12 Live Fishfinder/Chartplotter, It’s safe to say Shin has the water column covered from top to bottom, and front to back. Features included in each unit are ActiveImaging, LiveSight, real-time sonar, StructureScan 3D with ActiveImaging and Genesis Love on-screen mapping. A user can also view all these elements in a six-panel split screen.

Taking a look at each individual feature, ActiveImaging helps pinpoint fish-holding areas like rockpiles, standing timber, weedbeds, ditches and drop-offs. ActiveImaging sonar delivers a clear view and high-resolution images of fish and structure at a longer range.

LiveSight Sonar delivers detailed views of fish and their movements. Delivers views in real-time and shows how fish react to lures and live baits and relate to structure. FishReveal makes fish easier to see on DownScan imaging by combining CHIRP sonar and high-resolution views of bottom detail, structure and baitfish. FishReveal eliminates the need to display CHIRP sonar and DownScan imaging in a two-panel split screen.

In addition to the screens at the bow, Fukae has two at the helm that lead him to the hottest fishing spots.

Mapping in Real-Time lets a user update the mapping of a favorite fishing spot or map a previously unmapped area with half-foot contours in real time on the fishfinder’s screen with C-Map Genesis Live. This feature uses digital depth to create high-definition maps. Targeting key fishing areas with Genesis Live maps make it easier to find areas where fish like to hid. Genesis provides a customizable mapping experience, giving an operator control over transparency, contour density, depth and safety shading color palettes.

HDS Live units are available in four different screen sizes to fit myriad helm stations.

Smartphone notifications built into HDS Live let the user keep his/her eyes on the fish and never miss an important call or text. Turn off phone notifications for uninterrupted fishing or leave them on to receive popup notifications on the HDS screen.

Finally, LiveCast Smartphone Integration means the angler no longer needs to choose between watching the big game and spending a day on the water. Watch video, view Google maps and fishing data on the HDS Live display via an HDMI connection.
