ULTRA Anchor:

Tested and Recommended by BoatTEST

BoatTEST captains have used the ULTRA anchor in several different bottom conditions — sand, mud, gravel and rock — and find that it almost always sets on the first try. The entire shank is hollow so the weight is concentrated on the lead-filled tip. We found that it seems to always land in attack position and its downward-curved tip must help the anchor dig in and stay set, even when rotating from a tidal swing. The anti-foul bar ensures that the chain won’t wrap around the shank. Its polished stainless-steel finish makes a handsome statement on the bow. More...

Sea Ray SPX 210:

Entry-Level w/Performance

Sea Ray builds six SPX models in three sizes (190, 210 and 230) and gives consumers the option of outboard or sterndrive power. All are entry-level models and as such are more affordable than the larger and more luxurious SLX models that start with the SLX 250. We have tested the SPX 210 sterndrive model and can report that even though she is “entry-level” she does not lack performance, even with the standard 4.5 L 200-hp engine. Our test boat planed in 4.3 seconds and hit 30 in less than 8 seconds. We found her top speed to be 45.7 mph and she cruised comfortably at 26.9 mph at 3000 rpm. More...

Cruisers Yachts 54 Cantius:

Built by Americans for Americans

At first glance, the Cruisers Yachts 54 Cantius looks like she would be at home on the French Riviera. A closer look reminds us that she’s built by folks in Oconto, WI because of her American ergonomics, rugged build and practical functionality. She has standing headroom at the helm even though she’s an express cruiser. Below, she has three staterooms that make her attractive for two couples or a family that likes to cruise together. Kids will enjoy hanging out in the third cabin. More...

Sea-Doo RXP-X 300:

Peg the Thrill Meter

The Sea-Doo RXP-X 300 is a high-performance personal watercraft designed for aggressive riders. The bottom has a T-shape that results in a deeper keel for better tracking and grip in turns. There are grooves molded into the bottom directed toward the keel. When the RXP-X 300 is put into a hard turn, the grooves let in air to break adhesion with the surface, resulting in more speed and control throughout the maneuver, according to Sea-Doo. Additionally, the chines are rounded to let the machine lean more naturally into a turn. More...

Repowering? Check out Suzuki's 250

Thinking about repowering with a new 250-hp outboard? Suzuki’s two-stage reduction results in gear ratios above 2:1, while competitive engines have a ratio of 1.75:1 or 1.85:1. The taller ratio lets the Suzukis swing a bigger propeller and deliver more of its torque to the water for better hole shot. Check it out...

5 Anchorages Where History Was Made

After the War of 1812, the U.S. government realized that its ports on its Gulf of Mexico coasts were vulnerable to intrusion by enemy warships. The result was the building of a string of forts along the coast boarding the Gulf from 1824 to 1859. Ironically, the first “enemy” the forts guarded against was the U.S. Government that built them.
