Safety Lanyards are Now Mandatory for Boats 16' and Under

In case you missed it – as of April 1, 2021, safety lanyards attached to the operator and the kill switch are now mandatory on all boats 26’ (7.9 m) and under. The reason for this is simply because if the operator falls overboard, the chances are good that the boat will run them over with tragic consequences. To make the point, the USCG Southeast created a video showing exactly what can happen. Be sure to show this video to your kids if they operate a boat.
