The Scania 1,150-hp V8 is designed to have a beneficial power-to-weight ratio.

Scania, which manufactures engines for boats, trucks and industrial applications yesterday introduced two new emissions-certified diesels for the U.S. pleasure boat market. The company says its new 1,150-hp 16-liter V8 and 900-hp 13-liter inline 6 will have an “industry-leading power-to-weight ratio.”

Straightforward Design

The new engines are built on a Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) block and have a wastegate turbocharger. Scania’s Engine Management System (EMS) and common-rail extra high-pressure fuel injection optimizes fuel delivery. Without providing specifics, Scania is boasting “impressive torque” and lower noise. Scania says the engines meet the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 3 Recreational standard for marine emissions. The 16-liter engine is offered in power ratings ranging from 1,000 hp to 1,150 hp, while the 13-liter model spans from 700 to 900 hp.

The inline 6 engine can produce up to 900 hp.

The engines’ compact, modular and lightweight construction could make them suitable for new and re-power applications.

“Scania has built a hard-won reputation for exceptional products, coupled with first-class service and support in some of the most demanding markets in the industry,” Al Alcalá, sales manager for Scania USA Marine. “With the launch of our new 13- and 16-liter engines, certified for the pleasure craft market, we now offer our customers in the long-range cruising and sportfishing segments unprecedented power and efficiency with the reliability they can count on.”

Both engines feature a straightforward design with a single wastegate turbocharger.
