Sea-Doo Enters Pontoon Market

The Sea-Doo Switch Sport shown here is available in lengths ranging from 13’ to 21’ and comes with a trailer.

Sea-Doo, best known for its line of personal watercraft, has entered the pontoon-boat market with the 2022 Sea-Doo Switch. The new series is available in lengths from 13’ to 21’ (3.96 m to 6.4 m) and engines ranging from 100 to 230 hp.

“Over the years, we have proven that BRP is able to disrupt the industry by creating new segments,” said José Boisjoli, BRP's president and CEO in a statement. “Our team has done it again with the new Sea-Doo Switch, which will revolutionize the pontoon market. Switch is uniquely positioned to attract new entrants and a younger generation.”

Not a Typical Pontoon

Sea-Doo says it builds the Switch “to change the realities of what life on the water can be.” The key to this is a modular design that is new for the pontoon market, as are a couple of other features.

The smallest Switch model costs less than some personal watercraft and can carry more people.

The entire deck is made of configurable LinQ quick-connect tiles and the layout can be changed to myriad configurations. Seats can be moved or removed and all have storage in the base. Sea-Doo says there are 100 layouts available.

Sea-Doo is the first company to build a pontoon boat with modular construction so it can be customized every time the family heads out.

The Switch is also the only pontoon with handlebar steering and brakes. She has Sea-Doo’s iBR (Intelligent Brake & Reverse), making the Switch the first pontoon boat with brakes. With power provided by a Rotax engine, she is most likely the only pontoon with a jet pump as well. Underneath, she has a tri-hull bottom design that the company says leans into and carves through turns.

Look ma, no steering wheel. The Switch is the only pontoon boat with handlebars.

The Switch is available for pre-order and pricing starts at $17,999. Two upgrade packages, Cruise and Sport, are also available.
