Sharrow Props Triples Capacity to Meet Boat-Builder Demand
Sharrow Engineering and its marine division, Sharrow Marine, recently a major expansion into a new 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at Eastland Commerce Center in Harper Woods, part of Metro Detroit. This expansion more than triples the company's production footprint, enabling Sharrow to scale its manufacturing capacity to up to 2,000 units per month to meet unprecedented global demand for its award-winning Sharrow™ Propeller.
Now Supplying Boat Builders
In an exclusive interview with BoatTEST this week, CEO Greg Sharrow said that his company now has the capacity to supply the demand from boat builders to equip their boats with optional Sharrow props right from the factory.
“Boat builders realize that there is more to improving a boat’s performance than ever greater horsepower and a stepped hull,” said Greg Sharrow, CEO of Sharrow Marine. “All outboard brands produce their rated horsepower, but their Achilles heel has always been getting that power to the water efficiently. That’s why we’re in active negotiations now with several boat builders, who will be making our props an OEM item.”
By making the Sharrow props part of the boat just like an MFD, an air conditioner or other integral part of the boat, now the props need not be bought in the aftermarket. “The builders like the fact that we can design specifically for the boat and engine package they sell,” said Sharrow.
The new Sharrow facility is expected to begin production starting in September, 2025, and be fully operational by December, in order to meet demand for the 2026 model year.
Going Beyond Recreational Marine
“By investing in local talent and cutting-edge facilities,” Sharrow said, “we’re positioned to bring the same transformation to aerospace, defense, and energy that we have already brought to the marine industry. It’s an exciting new chapter as we set out to redefine what’s possible in propulsion on a global scale.”
Suffice it to say that the efficient Sharrow propeller design has not gone unnoticed by other obvious candidates for improved propulsion of all kinds.
The Sharrow™ Propeller has received global recognition for its revolutionary design, delivering dramatic improvements in fuel efficiency, range, handling, and noise reduction compared to traditional propellers. With over 160 patents worldwide, the Sharrow Propeller is the preferred choice for performance-driven boat owners, commercial operators, and defense customers worldwide.
Born and Made in the USA
The expansion complements the company’s recent relocation of its headquarters to Newlab at Michigan Central, a leading hub for innovation and mobility in Metro Detroit. Together, these milestones solidify Sharrow’s deepening commitment to American manufacturing and its hometown of Detroit as it scales to serve growing demand across marine, commercial, defense, and aerospace markets.
“This expansion is a powerful statement about the future of propulsion technology and American manufacturing,” said Sharrow. “We’re proud to grow our footprint in Detroit and continue building the most advanced propellers the world has ever seen.
Sharrow is actively hiring skilled workers, engineers, and technicians to support this expansion, contributing to the revitalization of Metro Detroit’s manufacturing sector and creating high-quality local jobs.
