Sharrow Superior in Speed, Fuel Efficiency and Range on Jeanneau Leader 10.5
In tests conducted by factory engineers, the Sharrow continuous blade propellers once again proved their efficiency on a Jeanneau Leader 10.5. The boat is 35’10” (10.9 m) long, has a 10’8” (3.05 m) beam and weighs 9,436 lbs (4,280 kg) without outboards.
For the test, Sharrow engineers equipped her two Yamaha 425 XTO outboards with stock 16.375” x 19” three-blade propellers to create a performance baseline, then duplicated the test runs after mounting 16.41” x 19” Sharrow propellers with TrueAdvance technology.
Though the propellers were nearly identical in pitch, the Sharrow’s were notably faster from 2500 rpm upward, and delivering a top speed of 50.1 mph vs. 46.7 mph for the stock propellers, about 3.4% better.
The Sharrow True Advance propellers also had a significant edge in mpg from 30 mph upward, with a 19% advantage between 35 and 45 mph where this combination is likely to be run most often when on plane. Boaters who use their boats regularly for longer runs will clearly see significant savings on fuel with the Sharrow propellers over extended use.
The Sharrow propellers not only saved money on fuel, but also extend the range, about 33 miles at around 35 mph and nearly 25 miles at 45 mph, giving a safety factor on longer crossings.
Users also report that the innovative propellers run more quietly and transmit less felt vibration to the boat at planing speeds. The BoatTEST staff has also found that Sharrow props provide better idle speed ‘grip’ on the water, easing docking maneuvers on many boats.
