Summit Yachts 54

Designed for a Fast Long Weekend

It’s been well documented that the Summit MotorYachts 54 can get up and run at a cruising speed of 21 knots, making short work of long distances on a three-day weekend getaway. No wonder, her bottom was designed by Michael Peters who has dialed in the optimum bottom shape for her mission. He’s been doing it for years for dozens of builders. When taking that well-deserved sabbatical down island for a month or two, she has a range of more than 1,200 nautical miles at displacement speeds. As can be seen above, her lower helm is to starboard with a side door that’s handy for quick exit. For docking, she has a wireless DockMate remote, which we consider the best of the type, that let us dock the boat from anywhere on board. More...

Cruisers Yachts 50 Cantius

Express Yacht w/Space to Relax

Cruisers Yachts 50 Cantius belies the concept of the typical low-profile European express cruiser. In the salon, there’s standing headroom and the galley is placed between the indoor gathering area and the cockpit. The latter has a spacious feel with a bench seat, a table and a smaller loveseat forward. Her transom has a grill beneath a hinged lid and there’s a trunk locker that has space for bulky items. Belowdecks, she can be configured with two or three cabins. More...

Everglades 273CC

Big Boat Features in a Mid-Sized Package

The Everglades 273CC’s helm has a big-boat feel with the company’s exclusive power front windshield and enough space for two 16” (4064 cm) multifunction displays. The captain and a companion travel on a doublewide bench seat with individual folding bolsters and there’s an angled footrest to enhance each person’s comfort. It doesn’t sound like much, but we applaud Everglades for putting a glovebox ahead of the companion seat. It’s one of those things that you don’t think you’ll miss until it’s not there. More...

How to Dock ANY Outboard Boat

Recently we discovered one of the best of the new crop of boating-video producers that is emerging online. This “how-to” series covers outboard boat handling, maintenance, repairs and other subjects. It is called “Technician’s Tuesday.” This particular video covers docking single as well as multi-engine outboard boats. In addition to the step-by-step instruction, there is some sage advice as to how to become proficient. More...

Pontoon Boat Mows Over Channel Marker

The owner of a fish camp in Crescent Beach, Fla., near Jacksonville, caught this intrepid captain clearly paying no attention to what was ahead. Without so much as even backing off the throttle a little, he/she plowed over a bright red channel marker that stands at least 10' (3.05 m) tall. We hope that no one was hurt. It's a good reminder of Rule No. 5 in the U.S. Coast Guard Rules of the Road, Post a Lookout. Click here to review all the rules.
