Suzuki Marine has unveiled two new outboards, the DF115BG and the DF140BG. They are four-cylinder engines and the manufacturer says they are the first to sue drive-by-wire technology. This simplifies rigging for the boatbuilder and makes the outboards more attractive candidates for re-power applications
Many Upgrades
Drive-by-wire also creates smoother shifting and enhances performance by improving efficiency. Additional enhancements include a new 10.6:1 compression ratio that helps the 2.0-liter blocks achieve better thermal efficiency. Fuel efficiency has been increased compared to existing DF115A/DF140A models, according to Suzuki. The company says the new DF140BG has burns as much as 7% less fuel from mid-range to high-end speeds. The DF115BG also reportedly has 5% to 6% better fuel efficiency at cruising speeds. Other improvements include a 40-amp alternator on both outboards to meet the electrical power demands of today’s fishing and pleasureboats.
A New Look
The engines have a streamlined cowling that incorporates a new air intake structure with improved water separation and a silencer-resonator system to attenuate engine noise. For maintenance, Suzuki makes it easier to replace the oil filter by removing only the upper engine cover. The filter mount is also surrounded by an Oil Spill Catcher to contain any stray lubricant when the filter is removed. The manufacturer also added a Water Detection Fuel Filter to protect against contaminated fuel.
The DF115BG/DF140BG will start production in October of this year as 2021 models. Suzuki says it will continue to offer the existing DF115A and DF140A for the foreseeable future.
