Rule 20(b) of the COLREGs (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea) addresses the exhibition of additional lights. It states that, in general, lights shall not be exhibited if they impair the visibility or distinctive character of the prescribed lights, or if they interfere with the keeping of a proper look-out.
