Uber Yacht to Launch in European Waters This Summer
Uber is nearly everywhere these days for travelers on land and now is expanding to the water with multiple offerings this summer in Europe’s boating scene. Reportedly the company will launch Uber Yacht in Ibiza, off Spain’s Mediterranean coast, this August.
The service will book yachts via the Uber app out of Ibiza Town Marina daily, per the company. For $2,000 USD (€1,600), groups of up to 8 can enjoy an 8-hour excursion aboard a Sunseeker yacht. Reservations are slated to open on July 26th for August departures.
Each 8-hour trip comes with its own personal skipper, a complimentary bottle of champagne and locally sourced artisan snacks. In true Uber style, transfers to and from the yacht are included – from anywhere on the island.
"At Uber, we're dedicated to enhancing travel experiences,” says Uber VP Anabel Diaz. “This summer, we're bringing exclusive nautical adventures to our app across Europe’s hottest destinations, from sailing in Ibiza to cruising the Venetian Lagoon.”
In addition to Uber Yacht, the company will debut "Uber Boat" in Venice this July, offering on-demand rides through the picturesque Venetian Lagoon from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., starting at $150 (€120) per trip. Just as in booking land transport, the app will make getting a boat as simple as tapping a few smartphone virtual buttons. The company says service will later expand to Greece, covering Athens, Corfu, Santorini, and Mykonos.
Meanwhile, "Uber Cruise" will kick off in Paris, with an introductory offering treating passengers to free one-hour private tours along the River Seine in an electric-powered pontoon boat. Riders can admire iconic landmarks such as the Louvre and Eiffel Tower from the water, per the company.
Uber's initiative responds to growing demand for on-water services in tourist hubs, according to Diaz, with plans to expand further. The company reports international customers for Uber’s mobility services increased last year by up to 55% in places like Greece and Spain. In fact, more than 6.5M international customers used the Uber app in Europe’s most popular destinations last summer.
Already testing the waters with Uber Boat on London’s River Thames since 2022, the company cites a 55% rise in boating service demand in parts of Greece and Spain in summer 2023, underscoring the potential for growth in this market.
