Viking offers the 82 Motor Yacht with an open or enclosed flying bridge. She transitions easily from a luxury cruiser to a tournament fishing machine with the cockpit space of a large convertible and a mezzanine with a lounge that measures 9’ (2.74 m) wide. Chill boxes for bait and drinks are built into the port and starboard staircases. When it’s time to celebrate the day’s catch, the aft deck, forward lounge and salon are laid out to entertain. In the Magellano 66, Azimut uses carbon fiber in the flying bridge, optional hardtop and swim platform. It helps create a lower center of gravity. On the bottom, Azimut employs what it calls the Dual Mode Hull with an upper chine that provides a wider beam at low speeds. At higher speed, the water flow separates from the lower chine, reducing the friction and increasing range and fuel efficiency. Hatteras is now owned by Johnny Morris, who is the 134th richest person in America with $6.9 billion according to Forbes. Johnny is one of the humble billionaires and his fishing worms-to-riches story is a classic. Over the years, we have tested virtually every Hatteras convertible, but somehow never caught up with this one. If we had to give an award for marine upholstery work, we’d have to give it to Chris-Craft. And if we have to give an award for fiberglass finish work in a production boat, again, it would have to go to Chris-Craft, which is now a division of Winnebago. In order to get the compound curves, tumblehome and other exquisite glasswork Chris-Craft produces molds are made to go in molds. Typically, Chris-Craft boats are made of more different molds than any boat in class.
