Welcome to the World’s Longest Electrified Coastline: Genoa to Saint Tropez
By Jeff Butler
With the addition of a new Aqua superPower marine fast charger at Marina Genova in the Port of Genoa, the world’s longest electrified coastline spans a distance of about 300 km / 185 miles along the Mediterranean Sea, from Genoa to St. Tropez.

The new charging station merges a 75 kW DC (Direct Current) Aqua superPower marine fast charger with a Blue electric vehicle installation and marks a pivotal addition to the world’s growing networks of electric vessel charging infrastructures. Other significant multi-installations are along the south coast of the UK, Sweden and Norway.
This installation complements the recent deployment of two charging stations at Marina di Loano — one 75 kW DC and one 22 kW AC (Alternating Current)—further expanding the region’s electric boating capabilities. Aqua fast chargers now line the coast with outlets at Genoa, Loana, Venitimiglia, Monaco Cannes and St. Tropez.
Marina Genova is one of the most modern large yachting complexes in the Mediterranean, with berths for 400 yachts and superyachts; restaurants, hotels and commercial activities catering to owners, guests, and crew; and a shipyard area for both routine and extraordinary maintenance. It is a major stop for superyachts, and the availability of this fast charger – along with the others along the Med coast – makes the purchase of an electric tender or other service boat an easier decision for owners.
The new chargers will also serve the growing fleet of electric day boats, work boats, sailboats and hybrid cruising yachts in the area. The strategic location of Marina Genova, next to Genoa’s airport, opens exciting new possibilities for electric boating, enabling seamless and sustainable exploration of the entire port area. Electric boat users can now easily navigate the Genoa’s historic port and beyond, fostering eco-friendly day trips or extended journeys along the Ligurian coast.
“This collaboration with Aqua superPower is a game-changer for sustainable boating in Liguria,” said Giuseppe Salamanca, Chief of Operations at Marina Genova. “The new charging station not only supports cleaner navigation but also positions Genoa as a leader in the global transition to electric maritime transport.”
An important aspect of the new charging capabilities is that it underscores the region’s dedication to reducing maritime emissions and preserving the pristine natural beauty of the Natural Parks in the area, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site Cinque Terre National Park and Portofino.
“The installation of Aqua superPower’s fast charger at Marina Genova is a pivotal step in electrifying Liguria’s coastline,” said Dario Sirtori, Deployment Manager Italy for Aqua superPower. “This project not only enhances sustainable boating in the area but also strengthens the region’s role as a pioneer in eco-friendly maritime innovation.”
The first Aqua superPower high speed electric charger was installed at the Yacht Club de Monaco in 2019, followed by the Saint Tropez installation in 2020 with the Genoa site now anchoring the eastern end of the electric coastline. Another route is being built in Spain, with Aqua chargers now in Portbou, Empuriabrava, Barcelona and Sant Carles.
Aqua superPower has developed the first supercharger specifically engineered and rated for use in marine environments, built to IP65 standards and enabling marinas, ports and harbours, commercial operators, boat builders, and powertrain manufacturers to accelerate the transition to clean propulsion in the marine sector.
Aqua has a unique business model in which the owner of the charger site generates revenue while Aqua provides the infrastructure, expertise, software tools and maintenance. Their proprietary cloud-based platform with payment capabilities, expert service teams and 24/7 customer care delivers a worry-free and seamless electric marine charging solution to both operators and customers.
