Outboard Buyer's Guide
Which 150-hp Engine is Best For You?
The 150-hp outboard engine is a workhorse for bowriders and center consoles/dual consoles in the 18’ to 22’ (5.48 to 6.7 m) range, depending on the application. But there are many more to choose from than what is pictured above. Check out all 207 engines on the Outboard Engine Buyer’s Guide here...

Sirena 58 Coupé
Circumnavigate the Great Loop in Style
The Sirena 58 Coupé’s low profile has garnered her lots of attention from the coastal and inshore cruising crowd that has to contend with low bridges but still wants a yacht built to high standards that can handle offshore conditions as well. Her low air draft makes her an excellent candidate for tackling the Great Loop. From the aft cockpit to the helm, all gathering areas are on the same level and her salon has a bright, open feel. Sirena builds her to meet Category A CE standards. More...
It's the Law!
The New Adventures of Boat Man
We ran a report on this last March, but in case you missed it: As of April 1, 2021, section 8316 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2021 requires individuals operating recreational vessels less than 26' (7.9 m) long with an engine capable of 115 lbs. (52.16 kg) of static thrust (3 hp) or more to use links of some sort to the kill switch. This law applies when the primary helm is not in a cabin and when the boat is operating on plane or above displacement speed. See what Boat Man has to say about it. More...

Cruisers Yachts 60 Fly
Well-Done Master Stateroom
The Cruisers Yachts 60 Fly is one of the largest cruising powerboats built in the U.S. She is a good boat for entertaining and comfortable cruising. Her innovative master stateroom is one of our favorites in class because its shower has frosted glass artwork on three sides and putting the closet in the passageway forward is actually better than a walk-in. The company is now owned by MarineMax but the veteran team that ran the business for years is still in place in Oconto, WI. Get a flavor of the boat here. More...

Grady-White Canyon 271
Intended and Built for Offshore Work
The Grady-White Canyon 271 is the smallest boat in Grady’s "Canyon" series of center consoles. Her mission, obviously, is to be able to run out to the fishing canyons that are anywhere from 50 to more than 100 miles off America’s East Coast. The folks at Grady-White are among some of the most safety-conscious boat builders in class and we commend them for building in safety features that are important whether it’s your first boat or your 15th and especially if you are headed to the canyons offshore. Things like unsinkable foam flotation, the true self-bailing cockpit and overboard draining boxes, functional toe-rails and hand rails strategically placed throughout the boat make this boat ready to do battle for a big day offshore. Is Your Ground Tackle Up For the Job?
Ground tackle is one of the most important and overlooked groups of equipment on any boat. At the end of the season when a boat is hauled, the person in charge of maintaining it needs to conduct a thorough investigation of the anchor, rode and all connections, especially where rope rubs on galvanized metal. The Well-Found Boat
Eluding Zeus' Wrath
When on the water, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the sky. Even a benign-looking thunderhead that’s not producing rain or wind can drum up lightning on short notice. Additionally, lightning typically strikes the tallest object and a boat on the water fits that description. Click to learn how to protect a boat from lightning. More...
Bradenton, FL Here We Come
The Sovereign Boat Club's Robalo R317 has the feel of a large boat when running because of her size and weight. She’s made for running offshore to the fishing grounds, but she can be beached for a party just as well. All of the other boats in the club are sold out of memberships at the present time, but there are a few left for this vessel. Snowbirds should ask about our special 6-month winter memberships. SBC has only premium boats and limits its membership to 8 people per boat. Check out our Bradenton boat here...
