World Cat Introduces New Hybrid Design Strategy
North Carolina Boat Builder’s 235HB Hybrid Reflects New Design Approach Aimed at Combining Fishing, Cruising and Watersports Applications.
US power catamaran builder World Cat has introduced a new hybrid design approach which the company says is intended to combine multiple boating applications within a single platform. The company’s first model developed around this philosophy is the new 235HB Hybrid, launched for the 2027 model year.
The North Carolina-based fibreglass boat builder says the new approach is designed to bridge the gap between different segments of the recreational boating market, bringing together features traditionally associated with offshore fishing boats, inshore bay boats, shallow-water platforms and family cruisers.
The 235HB Hybrid features a new hull design that combines low gunwales for inshore fishing with the offshore capability of a catamaran platform. With a draft of just nine inches, the model is intended to access shallow fishing areas while retaining the stability and space required for day cruising, diving and watersports.
“Our idea was to create a model that allows for offshore, inshore and flats fishing capabilities, as well as cruising, diving and skiing/watersports,” said World Cat director of sales, Chad Armstrong. “Not only did we accomplish this, but we designed the boat to be ideal for families and individuals alike.”
The 235HB Hybrid has an 8-foot, 6-inch beam and a maximum rated power of 300 horsepower through twin 150 horsepower outboards. Its layout includes dedicated tackle storage, a forward deck area for an electric trolling motor, bow seating and an aft centreline seat designed to accommodate two adults.
According to World Cat, the hybrid concept is also intended to broaden ownership appeal by creating a boat that is easy to trailer, launch, load and maintain. The 235HB Hybrid replaces the company’s existing 235CC model.
World Cat currently produces a range of outboard-powered centre console and dual console catamarans from 23ft-40ft.
