Yamaha Partners With Siren Marine

The partnership with Siren is part of an initiative by Yamaha to simplify boat operation.

Yamaha Motor Corporation has formed a strategic alliance with Siren Marine, which makes marine-based IoT products. As part of the agreement, Yamaha has gained a stake in the Newport, R.I.-based telematics organization. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Easier Operation

The partnership indicates that Yamaha is focusing on reinforcing its CommandBlue business philosophy that focuses on creating easier-to-use products and create greater satisfaction and confidence for operators.

According to a statement, Siren was chosen for its track record of advancing practical applications in marine IoT through innovation and engineering.

Siren is a pioneer in IoT technology for the recreational boating industry.

“Our relationship with Siren Marine will help us lead the marine connected and digital technology race,” Ben Speciale, Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit president, said in the statement. “Siren Marine devices, software and two-way communication will link to current and future integrated control systems…reimagining how boaters interact with Yamaha products.”

Speciale said that CommandBlue drives product development from a customer point of view. “The end game will be boats with integrated Yamaha systems that can be monitored and managed by a hand-held device.”

Siren Marine CEO Jeffrey Poole said the company wants to continue to move in the direction charted by founder Daniel Harper, who passed away in January. “We can’t imagine a better partner than Yamaha to help evaluate the true power of marine IoT technology,” said Poole. “Yamaha can develop power systems that make full use of the capabilities of IoT, and we can develop IoT platforms focused on the innovations brought by those power systems.”
