Yamaha SuperJet

Are You Man-Enough for this PWC?

Riding a standup personal watercraft like the Yamaha SuperJet can be a physical challenge – that’s the fun of it! That’s the nature of the machine and only those who want to challenge their limits (and impress their friends) need apply. Yamaha made sure the 8’ (2.44 m)-long SuperJet isn’t unnecessarily taxing by creating a light, adjustable steering column. Two hex-head screws on each side let the pole be extended or retracted 50 mm (1.96"). Additionally, the column pole is light so a smaller rider isn’t wrestling with it. With a throttle trigger on the right and the start and stop buttons and emergency shutoff lanyard on the left, thrills and spills await. More...

Chaparral 230 SunCoast

One Price for this Chaparral

Years ago, Chaparral Boats introduced its "Chaparral ONE" program for one of its boat lines and it proved very successful. Then, during the depths of the Covid crisis when boats were being snapped up by new and old boaters alike, the folks at Chaparral did something remarkable: they extended the "Chaparral ONE" program to their Suncoast, Vortex, SSi and SSi/SURF models. At the very same time, some builders and dealers let scarcity determine the price and we have heard stories of boats selling for more than the MSRP sticker.

As an example of how the program works, the 230 SunCoast deckboat shown above sells for $58,780 with a single Yamaha 200-hp engine. Done. Trouble is that for this model, the company has on its website: “We are experiencing extremely high demand and some models are sold out for the model year.” There is a message here. More...

Krogen Express 52'

A Couple's Cozy Trawler

The Krogen Express 52' is a semi-displacement motoryacht that, in our opinion, is ideal for a couple. She’s not too big, not too small and she's just about right for most people who want to live aboard for a large part of the year and cruise most anywhere. When it comes to functionality, she has most of the features found on a boat twice as big and four times as expensive. Krogen Express is a one-yacht company, each year building several yachts for couples that become part of the Krogen Express family during the gestation process. The buyer talks to the company’s owner, who has the boats built in the far east. Simple and uncomplicated, just like the boat. The image above is of a cabin adjoining the master, which is in the bow. Aquila 70 Luxury Power Catamaran

Luxury, Range and Style

Aquila Yachts’ 70 Luxury Power Catamaran is powered by twin 1,000-hp Volvo Penta D13 1000 inboards and she hit an impressive top speed of 31.4 mph. At 10.7 knots, she burns 17.5 GPH (66.24 L) for a range of 792 nautical miles with a 10% fuel reserve. Capt. Steve described her handling as “shippy” and to keep the operator in complete control, the armrest joystick controls the engines, thrusters and rudders at all speeds. More...

Boating Tips

Are Your Electronics Antiques?

When boarding a used boat to buy, the first thing we often notice is what amounts to Ma Bell electronics. You wouldn’t walk around with a cellphone that is 20 years old, so why do you think it’s OK to have electronic museum items on your boat? Advances in marine electronics have been remarkable the last few years, you need only take a look. Click here...
