Reminiscent of today’s “explorer” or “expedition” yachts, the Ocean Alexander 26R has a plumb bow and a robust profile. The boat is available with a standard flybridge or the optional enclosed skylounge.

Design
The Ocean Alexander Revolution Series, now consisting of the 28R and the 26R, is a divergence from traditional Ocean Alexander motoryachts and megayachts. The plumb bow allows the beam to carry forward giving more space below. Large, stylish hull side windows bring natural light to the staterooms. Ocean Alexander offers the option to have a fully-enclosed skylounge with an upper bridge deck or a completely open upper helm deck on the 26R.
Performance
The Ocean Alexander 26R has a length overall of 84'5" (25.43 m), a beam of 20’5” (6.22 m), and a draft of 5’11” (1.80 m). She has an estimated dry weight of 187,390 lbs. (85,000 kg) and a fuel capacity of 2,186 gallons (8,274 L).
Ocean Alexander has a reputation for excellent blue water performance in almost any condition. Although BoatTEST.com did not sea trial the new Ocean Alexander 26R, it should prove to live up to that character.
Boat Inspection
Stern
Starting from the stern, the Ocean Alexander 26R has a full-beam swim platform with stairs on the port and starboard side of the transom that lead to the aft deck.
Aft Deck
Stairs on each side lead up from the swim platform to the cockpit and the passageways close off with stainless-steel gates. Across the stern is a sofa-style lounge with twin tables just ahead. The tables can be filled to create a continuous larger unit and folding deck chairs can be positioned for outdoor dining for eight. Forward to port is a wet bar custom made for the boat and a custom overhead.
Main Salon
Ocean Alexander designed enlarged windows in the salon with custom engineered solutions incorporating marine-grade aluminum beams, which allows for industry-leading window expanse. By incorporating air conditioning outlets in the ceiling, the Ocean Alexander 26R's main salon provides unobstructed views to the outside.
Galley and Formal Dining Area
The layout of the Ocean Alexander 26R includes cabinetry storage under the stairs to the skylounge. Stone countertops over painted panel and cabinetry with positive-latch doors or proprietary drop-lock drawers provide containment of stored objects while underway.
Forward Salon
Owners can elect to have a lower helm or a forward salon. The forward consists of a U-shaped sofa with a pedestal table on the starboard side and a desk with a cabinet on the port side.
Helm, Skylounge, and Bridge Deck
The upper deck is bound to be the epicenter for entertaining onboard with the helm, skylounge, and bridge deck all located there. The upper helm can be open or fully-enclosed in accordance with the owner’s desire.
Electronics Package. Ocean Alexander offers a standard electronics package. For the Ocean Alexander 26R, it consists of Garmin 8600 Series Black Box with three 24” (60.96 cm) touchscreens, Garmin GRID remote input device installed on helm chair, Garmin 25 kW open array radar, Garmin autopilot GHC20, Garmin VHF, and card reader, Garmin Blackbox sounder, Garmin AIS with NMEA GPS, Garmin marine-camera (two in engine room and one aft deck), Triband HD7 with DIRECTTV® receivers, Ritchie 5" (12.7 cm) compass and iPad with built-in Garmin app for navigational control and viewing.
Forward Seating and Foredeck
Certain to be another popular social gathering spot is the forward seating and sun pad area built into the cabin trunk.
VIP Stateroom
Forward, the VIP cabin in the bow is a queen-sized berth with drawers in the base and a cedar-lined hanging locker with automatic lighting. There’s a small lounge to port and the en-suite head has the Tecma toilet, a shower stall, and storage.
Guest Staterooms
There are two guest staterooms accessed from the companionway. They are mirrored, with two single berths with one berth that can slide to make a single double berth.
Master Stateroom
In the master stateroom is a king-sized berth independently coiled for his-and-her sections to ensure minimal transfer of movement. There is a built-in safe in the full-height cedar-lined hanging locker.
Master Head
The his-and-her heads that have sinks, storage, and Tecma toilets equipped with Ocean Alexander’s proprietary lock-out system that prevents flushing when the holding tank is full. There is also a tankage status and alarm in the N2KView monitoring system. In between, the shower has seamless glass construction and is designed to protect against moisture buildup and water intrusion behind the panels.
Crew Quarters
Ocean Alexander claims that the 26R has the largest crew's quarters in its class with Ocean Alexander’s unique design, the crew quarters doubles as a Cabana. It allows for a day head, plus rest and eat area for swimming and out of water activities without needing access to the main deck interiors.
Construction. Ocean Alexander builds the 26R with infused-vinyl ester resin and high-density structural foam. The high density allows for higher temperature resistivity and improved thermal and acoustic insulation. Crosslink carbon is used in high-stress areas. Stringers, cross frames, and bulkheads are cored with foam. Special attention is paid to reducing sound and vibration and techniques include isolation barriers, reflective, absorptive, and dampening materials, air pockets and flexible and isolation mounts. Bulkheads are watertight and marine-grade aluminum beams are used to support the decks, walls, and overheads. The Ocean Alexander 26R is painted with epoxy-based primers and Alexseal polyurethane, which Ocean Alexander says has better gloss and color retention than gelcoat.
Engines and Related Systems. The Ocean Alexander 26R standard power is twin MAN® 1,650-horsepower V-12 diesel engines with alarm systems for high-water temperature and low oil pressure. Ocean Alexander offers optional MAN® 1900-horsepower V-12 diesel engines. The engines are installed on stainless-steel mounts. Ocean Alexander uses automated computerized Delta-T intake/exhaust fans with variable frequency drives to push/pull air through the machinery spaces. Ducts have water-separating and fire dampers installed with manual/automatic triggering systems. Adjustable/reversible Delta T fans for the engine exhaust are installed in the superstructure instead of the hull sides. This maximizes protection against water penetration to the motors and minimizes salt spray into the engine room. The two generators are Kohler 32 kW installed on vibration-dampening mounts.
Fuel System. Fuel capacity of the Ocean Alexander 26R is 2,370-gallons (8,971 L). There are sight gauges on the twin tanks, which are made from 4.5mm (1.8”) thick, 5052 aluminum and have high and low alarm systems. The boat has Racor fuel-water separators with Y-valves for the generator and a Gulfcoast fuel polishing system.
Water and Waste Systems. The holding tank system is an ECOMar with a capacity of 600 gallons (2,271 L) per day. The Ocean Alexander 26R is equipped with automatic bilge pumps with manual and automatic switches in each space that is divided by watertight bulkheads. A Sea Recovery water-making system is rated at 1,400 gallons (5,300 L) per day.
Electrical Systems. The 24-volt electrical system has AC outlets throughout the boat with GFI circuit protection in appropriate areas. Also, the boat is protected with ELCI Octoplex breakers. The engine batteries have isolation switches and all of the batteries on board are AGM. Shore power receptacles have Iso-Boost 2 x 100-amp cords with a master cable-retracting system. The boat is equipped with a 100-amp battery charger. The Ocean Alexander 26R has full bonding and grounding.
Octoplex NMEA 2000 Network. Monitors AC and DC power sources for voltage, frequency, and amperage and provides visual and audio alerts. The touchscreen monitor is user-reconfigurable and can be programmed for brown-out conditions through auto load-shedding, if necessary.
Air Conditioning. The Dometic chilled-water air conditioning system is rated for extreme tropical climates and has reverse-cycle heating. There’s a dedicated system for the engine room and throughout the boat, where possible, the air exits from ceiling panels hidden from view. Ocean Alexander says this shortens the length of the ducting system, improving efficiency and speed of cooling by more than 30 percent.

Observations
The Ocean Alexander Revolution Series is a bold departure from more traditional designs for Ocean Alexander that BoatTEST.com thinks consumers will like. Having the main salon, formal dining area, galley, and forward salon on the same level isn’t new, but Ocean Alexander carries it out intelligently, using cabinets to separate the areas without interrupting the flow.
It creates an excellent layout for entertaining and the extra-large windows make the boat feel larger than its 84’ (25.6 m) length, providing exceptional views. The plumb bow allows for extra space by carrying the beam forward. Finally, dual purposing the crew cabin as a “Beach Club” is a smart idea that adds to the boat’s versatility and BoatTEST.com projects that the skylounge will be a popular upgrade.
