Vessel Inspection
Cat design, no matter how big the boat or yacht is, has pluses on both interior and exterior space. With the beam taken fully forward, the Aquila 46 Coupe Power Cat offers spacious accommodations in its two stateroom, two head layout, as well as with its topsides deck space.
Bow
The bow area is one of those places which shows off the benefits of cat design. Roomy and wide, the space is sure to be a favorite gathering for those aboard.
Interior
Step through the entry door forward, or by using the aft sliding glass doors and step into the main salon area where there is a whopping 6’11” of headroom. With those large windows all around, and light décor with dark wood trim, the interior offers an elegant presentation.
Aft Section
Balancing the ability to be outdoors, and at the same time, have the opportunity to open up the aft section, is just one feature of the Aquila 46 Coupe’s design for entertaining here.
Living Accommodations
With that 17’11” beam carried fully forward, and in combination with the design of the Aquila 46 Coupe, this allows for the port stateroom to have 6’2” of headroom and the master to have an impressive 6’10” entranceway with 6’ in the room itself. In addition, there are lots of storage areas in both for those times, and given her prime directive as a cruising yacht, when those spaces will be needed.
A Word About Performance
With her cat design, the Aquila 46 Coupe is at its core, already a wide, stable platform noted for its performance, seaworthiness, and fuel efficiency. Enhancing this is the Aquila Hydro Glide Foil system, standard on the 46 Coupe, and whose purpose is to heighten those qualities. With its port to starboard alignment, the fixed carbon-fiber foil is installed between the hulls and bridging the tunnel, and will, as the rpm increase, act to generate lift and lessen the amount of wetted surface in the water. This will, in turn, reduce drag and function in a way so as to enable the yacht to achieve greater speeds and better fuel efficiency. An additional feature are a pair of stabilizing fins located on the aft section of the hulls which act to assist in supplying a smoother ride and help in avoiding the up and down motion, commonly known as ‘porpoising’, which can be most annoying to many while underway.
Our test boat weighed in at approximately 34,217 pounds with 30% of her 616 fuel load in the twin tanks and pair of 600-hp Mercury V12 outboards astern turning Rev X props. We had three passengers aboard and our conditions found us with a calm wind and an equally placid sea state, 70° F temperature, 68% of relative humidity, and sunny skies.
With our trim at first down, and as we gathered up speed approaching 20 mph, we adjusted it some 4% up and saw the foils go into action. Noticing how the boat rose up higher, we increased our speed and then the trim to about 12%, there to experience a smooth ride and steady attitude. Our top speed, at 6150 rpm, came in at 51 mph. At that rate, our range was about 338 sm. We found our best cruise settled in at 5000 rpm and 38.9 mph, we calculated a 404 sm with a 10% fuel reserve. During out-of-the-hole shots, we noted 10 mph at 4.2 seconds, 20 mph at 12.7 seconds, and 30 mph at 23.2 seconds. And while we noticed an acceptable and expected drop in speed during hard over turns, she tracked straight and true.
Summary
Deservedly so, the Aquila 46 Coupe is a complete package, covering performance, amenities, and the kind of room, both inside and outside, only a cat can provide. She has been designed and engineered for those wishing to own the kind of cruising yacht capable of spending anywhere from an extended weekend to island hopping to Great Looping in comfort and luxury. She is user friendly, owner-operator equipped, and can be packed with all the necessary and premium optional equipment.
An advanced carbon-fiber foil system, along with double stepped hulls, allows the Aquila 46 Coupe to outperform the competition in both performance and efficiency. And with the choice of either twin 600-hp Mercury V12 outboards, or a pair of 480-hp D6 DPI sterndrive diesel engines, your time out on the water will be as exciting as the yacht they are powering.
With an excellent reputation and track record in this sector of boat building, and a worldwide dealer and service network ready to take care of all your ownership needs, Aquila soars high with the 46 Coupe leading the way. Set up a visit and sea trial and find out for yourself, what the Aquila difference makes.
With 40 years, and counting, of powerboat design in its wake, Aquila has learned a thing or two about staying out in front. In 2012, in a partnership between industry giant Marine Max and parent Sino Eagle Yachts, the enterprise catapulted the builder to become one of the largest power cat companies in the world. Focusing 100% on this sector of the market, the technically advanced factory covers some 27 acres and employs over 510 craftspeople, artisans, and administrative personnel. One of the more outstanding results of their endeavors is the Aquila 46 Coupe Power Cat, the new flagship of the Coupe model lineup.
