Beneteau Antares 9

The redesigned Antares 9 (27’) is an outboard-powered express cruiser from French boatbuilder Beneteau rethought to be an ideal weekender for a couple with family or friends. Twin outboard power to a total of 500 horsepower lends peppy performance to the Airstep hull.

The new model Antares 9 (the original was introduced in 2017) has sleek profile enhanced by an arched chrome/silver rubbing strake and long hull windows. The wheelhouse arch, a hallmark of the line, forms a slightly broken curve. It joins the extensive coachroof which protects the generously-sized aft cockpit. She has greater eye appeal as well as improved ergonomics.

Beneteau Antares 9 overhead view

The Antares 9 is designed for twin 250-hp outboard power. A faux teak walkway on the starboard side makes bow access safe and easy.

The wider, deeper starboard walkway, featuring high pulpits, ensures safe passage to the foredeck to open the anchor locker or enjoy a break in the sunshine on the comfortable sun pads, complete with adjustable backrests.

Beneteau Antares 9 cockpit bench seating

The cockpit bench seating transforms into a sunlounge large enough for the whole family.

The L-shaped bench seat converts into a U-shaped al-fresco entertaining area, the ideal layout for a large number of guests. This modular saloon can be easily converted into a sunbathing area with added cushions when it’s time to relax and sunbathe.

Bringing the Outside In

Beneteau Antares 9 salon and galley

The salon and galley are open and airy, with large windows and a sliding glass sunroof to bring in light and air.

The galley on the starboard side and the dining area to port have an excellent view of the sea through the large fixed windows, while a sliding window and a starboard door add ventilation forward. The galley is equipped with an 80 L refrigerator, gas or electric burners, an optional microwave and lots of storage.

The companion seat forward can face aft to add a dining seat, or forward to keep the operator company while underway. The one-piece windshield and narrow mullions provide good visibility forward and pantographic wipers keep the glass clear in fog and rain.

Accommodations for Four Below

Beneteau Antares 9 bow accommodation

The bow accommodation is easily large enough for two, and hullside windows provide a view of the sea.

The queen-sized bed at the bow can be accessed from either side, and has reading lights on both sides as well as an overhead hatch to provide light and ventilation.

Beneteau Antares 9 wet head

The wet head includes a bowl-type lavatory, electric toilet and opening portlight.

The wet head is shared with guests in the double aft, and also serves as the boat’s day head.

Beneteau Antares 9 layout

The Antares 9 accommodates four below, with a crawl-in berth under the salon. She also has plenty of below deck storage aft.

Beneteau Antares 9 sliding door by the helm

The sliding door by the helm not only provides excellent air flow, but also makes it far easier to dock singlehanded, with a cleat within reach of the helm seat. A side entry door aft provides easy access from a dock.

Beneteau Antares 9 bow

The bow includes a large lounging area and a horizontal winch with remote as well as an elevated boarding platform. The top includes mounting rails to carry kayaks, paddleboards or other toys.

BoatTEST tested an earlier version of this model with twin 200 Mercury’s and found her top speed was 42.2 mph, best cruise at 3500 rpm and 25.4 mph where she got 1.8 mpg for a range of 262 SM on the 158 gallon (300 L) fuel capacity. The redesigned model, with similar weight and dimensions and equipped with the max 250’s, should produce a higher top speed.

The new Antares 9 will be on display for her world premiere at the Dusseldorf Boat Show, from January 18th through the 26th, 2025, Hall 4 – Stand B19.
