C-Dory 25: Weekend Warrior

The 25 Cruiser adds a larger option to C-Dory’s line of Down East trailerable trawlers. Simple, easy to maintain and trailerable means this craft will generate a lot of attention for boaters out there looking for a trawler-style boat for cruising, yet don’t need the space associated with the typical cruiser.

Construction

These boats are ruggedly built with the hull and topsides constructed separately and then glassed together for a unitized system that’s stronger and lighter than most. Another great advantage is that they don’t have a legion of fasteners bored into seams that can leach water and break down the material over the years. C-Dory protects the nose of the boat from debris and trailer rash by adding a 1" (2.54 cm) brass stem guard from the bow eye down the leading edge since this is where the most frequent damage on a trailerable boat occurs. Color is molded into the hull rather than added later so it lasts as long as the hull does. Interior surfaces have two layers of gelcoat for a longer-lasting finish. Handrails and cleats are stainless steel and are thoroughly bolted for security. The windows are Diamond Sea Glaze safety glass, which is found on most high-end trawlers.

Deck Features

Topside, the C-Dory 25 has a standard roller system for ground tackle. Getting forward is made a bit safer with the stainless steel rails along the top edge of the cabin top. The side walkways seemed pretty narrow, but most boaters on this model will most likely only go forward while anchoring or docking. Safety rails surround the bow area and all top surfaces have extra grip for better footing. Rub rails are heavy-duty one-piece aluminum. The trim tabs are standard on the 25 as well as a windshield wiper and opening front window. The 25 Cruiser is also equipped with 30-amp service shore power.

The Cabin

Inside, the C-Dory 25 offers a galley with a small refrigerator and cooktop on the starboard side behind the helm. Over on the port side is a dinette with a removable table. Under the aft seat is a standard hot water system. The forward bench back can be used in two positions — one faces the table and the other faces forward for underway viewing. The head is mounted on the starboard side abaft the galley. An easy snap-in canvas can be hooked up to allow privacy in the head when needed. The windows are all large, which gives the helmsman a clear view in all directions. When it’s time to turn in for the night the dinette table drops down to form a 6’4” (1.93 m) berth and the V-berth forward becomes another 6’4” (1.93 m) berth.

The C-Dory 25 Cruiser has a length overall of 25’ 5” (7.7 m) with a beam width of 8’6” (2.6 m). She boasts up to 6’10” (2.08 m) of headroom in the cabin spaces and weighs 3,950 lbs. (1,791.68 kg). Although we tested her with the Honda 150 Four-Stroke, she can utilize outboards up to a maximum recommended power of 200 horsepower. She carries 100 gallons (378.5 L) of fuel for a range sure to give you plenty of rest and relaxation on the water. The hull on the C-Dory 25 Cruiser is warranted for five years, yet the manufacturer claims to have a large client base with far more years under the hull without problems.

Performance

We tested the C-Dory 25 in the Intracoastal Waterway and found she cruised most economically at 3500 rpm. At this speed, you can expect to achieve a fuel burn of 3.8 gph and average about 15.4 mph, which delivers a range of 390 miles on a full tank of fuel. She can charge up to 35.4 mph at 6000 rpm with the Honda 150 Four-Stroke outboard. At the top end, you burn 14.5 mph and have a range of 235 miles. Sound levels were good with a low of 59 dBa at idle, 76 dBa at cruise and 89 dBa at top speed. Time to plane was only 6.7 seconds with a 9.2-second time to 30 mph. If touring for a day or a weekend is what you like to do, and you enjoy the advantages of a trawler, then the C-Dory 25 provides a great choice in a trailerable package. She has the price, amenities and handling any weekend warrior could want in a trawler.
