2 x 200-hp Yamaha

Brief Summary

Constructed by Regal Boats—a family-held American boatbuilder active for over fifty years—the LX9 is one of the brand's newest offerings. Built upon their proprietary FasTrac hull architecture, which incorporates full step technology to lessen drag and improve fuel efficiency, Regal developed this model as a 29' day-cruiser. She provides recreational boaters, families, and watersports enthusiasts with a broad, stable platform optimized for all-day lake outings, harbor runs, and sandbar social gatherings.

Her layout focuses on perimeter-maximizing benching, featuring full-width stern upholstery, dual rear-facing recliners, and a bow lounge with deep seating wells. Below the passenger-side console sits an enclosed head compartment complete with a synthetic countertop, sink, and chemical toilet. Key customizable additions include a powered hardtop or power tower, twin Yamaha outboard engines up to 500 horsepower, a Seakeeper 1 gyroscopic motion dampener, a bow thruster, and dual 12-inch glass helm touchscreens.

A Word About Performance

The Regal LX9, powered a pair of standard Yamaha 200-hp outboard engines, runs on a double-stepped, FasTrac hull which, according to the company, offers speedy performance and improved fuel efficiency as the design gets air underneath the hull adding to a more comfortable ride.

Our test day saw calm seas with 7 knots of wind, an air temperature of 80°, and relative humidity of 68%. We had four people on board, 95 gallons of fuel, with a 10% reserve of the total 150 gal fuel capacity, and moderate gear.  We hit a WOT speed of 51.7 mph at approximately 6000 rpm, and found our best cruise at 4000 rpm and a speed of 32.2 mph. At that rate, we calculated a 300.0 statute mile range with a 10% fuel reserve. Our test Regal LX9 planed at 3400 rpm at 20 mph, reached 0-10 mph in 4.0 seconds, 0-20 mph in 7.0 seconds, and 0-30 mph in 10.5 seconds.

Once up on plane, we experienced smooth turns with little drop in rpm during hard over, tight maneuvers including s-turns at 35 mph. She felt tight and solid  with no vibration aboard and in control throughout our sea trial time. During our speed runs, she tracked straight and true.

Summary

Since it opened its doors for business in 1969, Regal Boats is a still family-owned business and for all this time, it has never wavered from providing the most innovative, inventive, well-built models utilizing all that technology over the years has afforded.

With the Regal LX9, combining the best of a bowrider, dual console, and sport boat, this model provides a performance-oriented dayboat—standard dual Yamaha 200- or optional 250-hp outboards deliver the excitement—with luxurious touches, comfortable seating, and ample storage space. Whether local cruising, participating in a wide variety of water sports, hanging at the sand bar or gunkholing at a favorite anchorage, the Regal LX9 will deliver all that is expected from a day out on the water.

About the Reporting Captains

Experts and Boat Owners

What has set BoatTEST apart from the many video-makers currently on the Internet and Social Media is the fact that for 26 years, only USCG-Licensed captains and experienced boat owners have tested and written our reports and made our videos. We believe that to provide boat owners the information they deserve, only other boat owners – who know the challenges of ownership -- can accurately report on it.  It is that level of expertise and ownership experience that goes into every video and Captain’s Report that we publish.  Because we know what it is like owning and operating a boat, we can pass-on the information that prospective boat buyers need to know.
