Aft Deck
The cockpit deck is the first of the social zones on the 4600 and it’s impressive from both a functionality standpoint and an ergonomic one. A sofa wraps from the port side around and across the stern. A gloss-finished teak table is on a fixed pedestal. All decking is teak. An outdoor galley is ahead and to starboard and it includes a grill, sink, an icemaker and refrigeration. This area is protected by the overhead 6’11” (2.11 m) off the deck and there are two sunroofs that open electrically. An extended awning is attached to the trailing edge of the hardtop.
Steps to starboard lead to the swim platform and a hydraulically actuated section comes out 4’4” (1.32 m) of the total 5’5” (1.65 m) from the transom. Stairs to port lead to the port side decks.
Interior
Galley
We enter the 4600’s interior through a sliding glass door with polished stainless-steel frames. Headroom is 6’11” (2.11 m). To further combine the inside with the outside, there’s a separate bulkhead window that can be opened outwardly to lie flush with the aft deck overhead. This allows a seamless flow from the galley counter to the aft deck for serving both areas, as well as the dining area ahead and to starboard.
The galley is U-shaped and includes Corian counters that have a recessed edge to contain spills. The usual cast of appliances is present, including a two-burner electric cooktop, a convection microwave and a single-basin stainless-steel sink. There’s storage both above and below and all cabinetry is fabricated from high-gloss Walnut.
Being a Platinum Edition, the elevated level of fit and finish can be seen throughout. Not only do we have the hi-gloss walnut woodwork, but there’s also flawless joinery along with upholstered bulkheads. Woodwork options include a stain finish to the Walnut, hi-gloss or satin-finished Oak or hi-gloss Cherry.
Dining
Ahead and to starboard is a U-shaped settee wrapping around a gloss-finished solid wood expandable table on a fixed pedestal. This is all on a platform raised 9” (22.86 cm) off the deck. Large windows to the sides provide excellent sightlines to the horizon. There are forward-opening windows and pull-down shades… both manually operated so they won’t fail years down the road. Just ahead there’s a 43” (109.22 cm) TV on an electric lift.
The opening side windows supplement the ventilation provided by the aft door, the aft galley window and the massive opening sunroof.
Helm
The helm console is positioned to the port side with the operator to the port side of the console. This is an ideal scenario as an observer doesn’t require the operator to get up and move to let someone in and out of their seat.
There’s an elevated panel housing the two 12” (30.48 cm) MFDs (Multi-Function Displays) and a compass is mounted to the center and above, not quite in line with the wheel. The panel is upholstered in Alcantara Suede and climate control vents are to the outsides of the displays, which are mounted to a carbon-fiber panel.
Below, the digital engine controls are mounted inside a small cubby to the operator’s right making it easier and uninterrupted when bringing the levers forward. A C-Zone digital switching screen allows for controlling the vessel's entire electrical system as well as monitoring of all tanks and pumps.
An attractive feature is the opening side window that allows for controllability with the joystick while maintaining a full view of the port side. There are two forward windshields, 57” x 48” (144.78 cm x 121.92 cm) protected from glare by a 19” (48.26 cm) brow just above. Backing into a slip is easy thanks to the entire aft bulkhead being glass.
Engine Compartment
The engine room is accessed from a hatch in the cockpit deck. Power plants to choose from are the dual IPS 650s or 800s. In either case, they're connected to the pods further back by jackshafts. There’s a Seakeeper 6 gyrostabilizer. Battery banks are between the two engines. At the forward bulkhead, there’s a fuel sight gauge. All the manifolds are easily accessed. There are fuel filters for the two main engines and the 16 kW Kohler generator.
Accommodations
The companionway is 22” (55.88 cm) wide and each of the six stairs has a 9” (22.86 cm) riser. The door to the master stateroom is just to the starboard side at the bottom of the stairs.
Master
As we enter the master, the headroom is an impressive 6’11” (2.11 m). As we step down into the room, the overhead drops slightly but there’s still 6’5” (1.96 m) of standing headroom and 3’11” (1.19 m) over the berth that measures 67” x 76” (170.18 cm x 193.04 cm).
As for the overall stateroom, it’s full beam with hull side windows to port and starboard. Both have integrated opening portlights and we’re happy to see that Riviera always alarms these to the helm. A storage credenza is to the starboard side and it includes a large drop-down bin. To the port side, there’s a chaise lounge and a hanging locker is forward of that. A 32” (81.28 cm) TV is mounted to the forward bulkhead with still more storage under that.
The Riviera fit-and-finish is ever-present with an upholstered bulkhead, an upholstered overhead, mirrors to both sides of the upholstered headboard and a continuation of the gloss-finished Walnut woodwork.
VIP
The VIP stateroom is located fully forward. The layout is typical of a 67” x 61” (170.18 cm x 154.94 cm) island berth, accessible from steps to both sides. Headroom is 6’7” (2.01 m), which leaves 3’6” (1.07 m) over the berth. Storage is in hanging lockers to both port and starboard in drawers under the berth and the foot of the berth lifts to reveal even more storage. Access to the shared head is aft and to starboard.
Guest Stateroom
The guest stateroom is to port and features over/under berths with the lower berth benefitting from a hull side window. This stateroom can be optioned out for a lower deck sitting area with an L-shaped sofa left open to the main corridor. With the stateroom version, there’s also an option for a stacked washer/dryer behind a door just ahead of the stateroom entry door. Without the washer/dryer option, it will be just storage.
Observations
It's hard not to be impressed by this beautiful yacht. The combination of Riviera's timeless workmanship coupled with the added Platinum Edition features makes for a beautiful and stunning final result. It's also not lost on us that this is an ideal size for an owner-operator to manage without any difficulties.
