Captain's Report

Mission

The 18 TrX is one of Triton's premier bass boats that comes with high-end performance at an affordable price. A wide-stable beam of 94" (238.76 cm) — just an inch less than their biggest model — creates spacious deck space above and abundant storage below. An integrated ice chest, spacious port and starboard rod lockers, large center storage and room for stacking utility boxes in rear compartments make this rigged for fishing right off the trailer.

Performance And Handling

With the Mercury 200 Pro XS engine, the Triton 18 TrX is very responsive to the throttle. Coming up to plane in 1.6 seconds and she can reach 50 MPH (80 kph) in 6.8 seconds. Her best economic fuel burn was measured at 3000 RPM and 33.8 MPH (54.39 kph). At full speed, she reached 69.5 MPH (111.84 kph). We noticed she could have a little bit of a chine walk at top speed with light chop but other than that, the 18 TrX runs straight, strong and smooth.

Bow

With a beam of 7’8” (2.34 m) and a casting platform that’s 6’5” (1.95 m) wide, the 18 TrX provides ample space for casting and maneuverability.

On the bow is the standard Minn Kota Fortrex 70-lb. thrust trolling motor with foot controls recessed into the deck.

The bow has a mounting panel to install an optional Lowrance, Humminbird, or Garmin display that can fit a 9” (22.86 cm) display or up to a 12” (30.48 cm) display when ram mounted. Below that panel is an integrated tool holder and cup holder, as well as switches for the Anchor/Nav lights and engine trim.

The 18 TrX has plenty of space under the bow casting platform bow with three large storage lockers.

Under the casting platform in the bow are multiple storage compartments. On the starboard side is storage that can fit up to 7’ (2.13 m) rods but with no rod organizer and along with dedicated storage for the anchor light. In the center is a self-draining storage locker that is finishing inside. On the port side is carpeted rod storage with the option for port side rod organizers. All bow storage compartments are lockable and hatches are reinforced so even heavy anglers can walk on them.

Our test boat came with the optional retractable Rod Buckles brand straps on the port and starboard side.

The pedestal bike seat for the bow comes standard with the 18 TrX, an option is a full seat with a flip-down backrest.

In the center step going up to the bow is an insulated cooler.

Cockpit

In front of the passenger seat is Triton's “Catch-All” pocket with a sand-blasted nonskid mat. To the port side of that are holders that will accommodate the butt end of rods.

The rod holders can hold up to 6 rods. They get secured with a Velcro strap in the aft gunwale.

The 18 TrX comes standard with two Clarion speakers, one port and one on the starboard side of the cockpit. The passenger side also comes with a stainless-steel grab handle above a stainless-steel self-draining beverage holder.

The driver and passenger seats are bucket-style. We would like to see them have forward and aft adjustment.

The center console comes with two storage compartments as well as two cup holders. The tray under the large storage compartment is removable to give the owner access to the boat's fuel tank.

The helm console comes standard with a padded dash that supports a Tachometer, Speedometer, Voltmeter, Fuel, Trim and Water Pressure gauge. There's a space to fit an optional chart plotter or the standard 9” (22.86 cm) flush-mounted Lowrance.

The Triton 18 TrX comes with one livewell, an aerator pump with timer, one Recirculation Pump, and livewell pump out.

The Pro-Trim engine trim lever comes in handy when at high speed by making it easy to trim the engine while keeping both hands on the wheel.

Under the helm, on the starboard side, is a Clarion receiver above the ignition and 12V outlet, and below are a draining beverage holder and lure holder.

The Hot Foot acceleration pedal comes standard on the 18 TrX.

Stern

The aft livewell is 31 gallons (117.34 L) with the option to have a tournament dual or single compartment. Our test boat came with a single livewell with a divider. The 51-qt (48.26 L) storage compartments on the port and starboard side have the added capability to store Plano tackle boxes into slots.

The aft compartment in the casting deck gives access to the boat batteries, chargers and cutoff switch. Our test boat comes with two batteries for the trolling motor as well as one for engine start.

To the starboard side is the starting battery. The 18 TrX comes with an optional 36V trolling motor, in which case there would be a fourth battery stored in this space. The battery cut-off switch is located right above.

Our test boat came with a manually-adjustable 6” (15.24 cm) jack plate. There is an option to get a hydraulically-operated version.

There is a stainless-steel grab handle on the port side for reboarding as well as non-skid padding on the aft platform.

The telescoping reboarding ladder is stored inside the port side quarter.

The boat, engine and trailer are all sold together in this package deal of the Triton 18 TrX.

The 18 TrX is one of Triton's more customizable bass boats. Triton offers two optional packages, the Tournament Fishing Package and an Elite Package that has to be purchased in addition to the Tournament Fishing Package.

Observations

The Triton 18 TrX comes with a variety of different options but even with its standard features she is fully loaded and ready to fish. With a price starting at $39,995, the 18 TrX provides high-quality features and amenities all while keeping the price affordable.
