The Tiger 42 is built on the traditional race boat configuration with both high performance and pleasure in mind. She descends from a racing heritage second-to-none, and is built on the cutting edge of new technology and style. While severe offshore conditions prevented us from reaching wide-open throttle, Cigarette says the 42 Tiger runs in the mid-80mph range with our test power.
The Tiger 42 has solid construction under her. The hull and deck are hand laid with multi-directional fabrics and have premium vinylester resins for great strength, durability and lightweight. Both the pilot and co-pilot have an array of racing-type equipment, including Kiekhaefer heavy-duty trim tabs, huge Gaffrig gauges with anodized bezels, liquid filled Speedo, Latham competition controls with in-handle trim control, along with many other exciting accessories. The cabin has three different layout options.

At first sight the 42 grabs you with an incredible, custom paint job that explodes right in front of your face. The graphics on this boat are definitely the wildest we’ve seen in a long time. Cigarette has created a racing boat that is on the cutting edge of technology, style and performance. The heart and power of the Tiger 42 are the MerCruiser 575 SCI, supercharged, fuel-injected engines that lie underneath a remote controlled hydraulic hatch. Once up, the Mirrorplex engine hatch reveals the powerplants through the reflection, making it a neat attraction, especially at the docks. The engines also have a unique fuel priming system incorporating two Holley electric pumps for getting fuel to motors quickly. Two forward-mounted bilge pumps in cooperation with a bulkhead mounted sucker pump insure a dry engine compartment.
Our test boat roared out on the water with twin 575-hp Merc 575 SCIs and hit a top speed of 74 mph at 4800 rpm, and her best cruise was at 57.0 mph at 4000 giving her a total cruising range of 216 miles. The company states that the boat can hit well over 80 mph with twin 700-hp Hawk engines, and well over 100 mph with 1000-hp Hawks.
The helm is an incredible site with Gaffrig Monster series gauges, a liquid filled Speedo and both fuel pressure and boost gauges to monitor the engines. The Tiger also comes with its own GPS and electric compass. In addition, the helm features Kiekhaefer heavy-duty trim tabs, and Gaffrig zero effort throttles and shifters. The co-pilot’s station also has plenty of gauges to keep an eye on while cruising. The Tiger also has full hydraulic offshore performance steering. Comfortable bolster seats with mechanical dropouts keep both the pilot and co-pilot in place at high speeds.
Entry below is gained through a sliding door with integrated steps for easy access to the deck and functional intakes. The Tiger 42 is offered in three different layout options: Full; Cover Girl; and Half. The Full style has a wrap around sofa, chair, V-berth, enclosed head, a small dinette area, cooler with teak cutting board, two hanging lockers, and fresh water outlets. The Cover Girl cabin has two sofa seats, a solid bulkhead forward with storage underneath, and recessed coolers on both sides of the cabin. The Half cabin has all the same features as the Full except the V-berth.
The Tiger 42 is one awesome attraction both at the docks and on the water. She proved her power and speed on our test run and we were impressed by her stability and soft-re-entry. The Tiger is just another example of Cigarette’s continuing strives for perfection.
