Political Action Group Wants to Stop Fishing

We could not make this stuff up: The
folks at PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) are at it again and
this time they have trained their mighty political guns on fish and fishing. They
are out to save all the fish of the world by re-programming our children. Surely, every
child will stop daddy from fishing if the fish are called “sea kittens”. To promote
this concept, PETA is embarking on a large scale (or is it scale-y?) social engineering
program to convince children of this before dad can get to them with the concept that
fishing is fun. Moreover, they are also taking aim at federal and state programs
that promote fishing and are urging people to write to Congress.

PETA is calling fish “sea kittens” in order to brainwash America’s youngsters against fishing.

The Sympathy Angle



According to PETA, “…fish don’t have the sympathy that beloved cats and dogs do,
so we're going to start by retiring the old name for good. Who could possibly want
to put a hook through a sea kitten?” Or, eat canned kitten?

On PETA’s “sea kittens” website, they have story books about fish that are just
as cute and playful as kittens -- right up until they are caught and gutted and
then rolled in bread crumbs. You can even create and “save” your own sea kitten.


New Political Campaign



According to the website. “…it's high time that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
(FWS) stop allowing our little sea kitten friends to be tortured and killed. Who'd
want to hurt a sea kitten anyway?! Sea kittens are just as intelligent (not to mention
adorable) as dogs and cats, and they feel pain just as all animals do.”
