3 Stooges Steal New Zealand Boat

Thieves stole a dinghy overnight last
week from Lyttelton Harbour's Cass Bay, New Zealand, rowed it to a 34-foot yacht,
started the engine and took off to sea. "They were idiots," said local Constable
Richard Scott. The thieves did not know to turn on the seacock for the raw water engine cooling and “consequently it blew up” said the constable. Then the yacht
began drifting toward shore. Not surprisingly, it was yet another narrow escape
for the stoogefellows who always seem to get out of these scrapes.

Constable Scott tells the tale: "Luckily, they had tied
the dinghy to the back of the yacht. If that wasn't there they would have been stuck
on the boat with nowhere to go. It was a cold night with a southerly blowing and
they could have easily drifted into the deep sea.

"They would have had no idea how to operate the GPS and they could have just disappeared."
A fisherman discovered the drifting vessel at South New Brighton early yesterday.

"They [the Missing media item. had tried to take the radio, and bourbon bottles were lying
everywhere," said Scott.

A member of the public discovered the dinghy between the pier and the Waimairi Surf
Club full of lifejackets, flares, and other items off the yacht.

"They had obviously got to shore and done a runner pretty quickly," Scott said.
