New Trophy 183 CC For $14,995 With 90-hp Merc

The new paradigm of the age is affordability
and practicality first, and Trophy’s new “Rolled Gunnel Series” certainly meets
that criteria. With a boat, 90-hp motor, and trailer package, all three, for $15k.
It is a “hose-and-go” fishing or utility boat that is ideal for casual fisherman
in protected waters or youngsters learning the ropes with their first boat. And
if you are one of those busy types who would like to go fishing now and then – the
Trophy is so inexpensive you won’t feel guilty leaving her on the trailer for weeks
on end.

Trophy 183 CC Run

This new Trophy center console package gets
you on the water for an affordable price.

Trophy 183 CC Helm

One of Trophy’s “Rolled Gunnel Series”, the
183 is ideal for certain applications.

The Trophy 183 is 17’7” LOA with a 7’6” beam, draws about
12” and weighs about 1,500 lbs. That’s good because it means you won’t have to own
a Mack Truck to tow her. Her deadrise at the transom is 15-degrees which is a reasonable
compromise for this type of boat and intended use. This boat is not for crashing
across the Gulf Stream in search of blue marlin. Rather, it is an economical small
boat for rivers, small lakes, protected estuaries, the ICW, and coastal work on
calm days.

Trophy 183 CC Floorplan

In some respects, this is a “back-to-the-future” type of boat which is the major
reason why it is so inexpensive. The boat does not have an inner fiberglass liner.
Rather, its “Rolled Gunnel” is simply the inside of the hull of the boat. The deck
is a separate part that is glassed into the bottom of the boat over the
stringers, foam flotation and poly fuel tank. Pressure-treated marine plywood is used in the deck, stringers and transom and has a 10-year warranty. This adds great strength and keeps costs down.

Trophy 183 CC Livewell
The 11 gallon livewell with pump goes forward
of the console.

While the boat is certainly basic, it includes a number of important amenities including
an 11 gallon livewell with pump, forward high grab rail, stern grab handles, storage
compartments in the bow and stern and a bolted on center console with grab rails
and windscreen.

The fuel tank is made of polyurethane so you won’t have to worry
about aluminum rusting and it is strapped down rather than being encased in foam.
There is an access plate to the fuel bib.

There is storage in the seats, port and starboard.

As you can see in the pictures
the interior of the boat is painted white then a blue spackle has been applied over
the white paint. This is standard boating industry practice when hull liners are
not used. The white paint is durable and is cooler to the touch than gray or other
colors. The Jackson Pollard blue artwork creates an optical illusion that both breaks
up the mass of white and to some degree camouflage
any roughness in the surface
or dirt. As we said, it is a “hose-and-go” boat.

The boat has a rated capacity of
6 persons or 900 lbs. She is NMMA certified as meeting all ABYC standards for this
size boat and since it is under 20’ it meets USCG level flotation standards. The
hull has a transferable 10-year limited warranty.

With fuel surcharge tax and destination
charges, and without the bow rail, the boat comes out costing about $15,736. The 90-hp 2-stroke Mercury engine has a carburetor.

All of your basic instruments are here and you have room for a fishfinder and VHF.

The “Rolled Gunnel Series” started being built in February so they should be at
most dealers lots by now. The great thing about buying a packaged boat is you can
show up at a dealership which has the boat and drive away with the rig.
