Monaco Classic Week: Belle Epoch Revisited

Save the dates: September 16-20 in
Monaco. The word at over cocktails at Harbor Court (the New York Yacht Club’s Newport,
RI station) over the 4th of July weekend was that the Monaco Classic Week will be
the one “don’t miss” yachting event in the Fall. While the emphasis on the water will be the great old classic sailboats from just before and after the turn of the
19th Century, there will be numerous classic steam-powered motoryachts and vintage
powerboats on hand and there is even a predicted log race for the coveted Hublot
Trophy. As always finding dock space or a mooring in Monaco’s beautiful but snug
harbor will be next to impossible, but don’t delay booking at marinas down the coast
– and thanks to the economy there are still some slips available.

Since 1994 the Yacht Club de Monaco, under the Presidency of H.S.H. Prince Albert
II, has organized Monaco Classic Week. Every two years, in September, the event
brings together some of the most magnificent classic motor and sail vessels ever
built. They are all received and present in Monaco’s Port Hercule – a harbor that
continues its long tradition of innovation and the hosting of exceptional events.

Monaco Classic Week-La Belle Classe wishes to ally pleasure and the authentic spirit
of Yachting by presenting the marvellous spectacle of traditional sailing yachts,
classic historic motor-yachts and vintage powerboats, all participating in nautical
events within and around Port Hercule waters. It is truly an enchanting scene, presenting
living pages from Golden Eras.

The 8th Edition of Monaco Classic Week: The The Quality of Excellence

The Yacht Club de Monaco wants to pay tribute to the owners, members of
La Belle Classe, so as to ensure the quality of the vessels participating is truly
exceptional. Owners and their craft are present on a by invitation basis only. Around
50 units will pick up their moorings close to the YCM Club House to celebrate of
the art of living and traditional seafaring.

predicted log contest during the last classic week.

Vintage Motor-Yachts

From 25 to 70 meters (82’ to 231’), some from the inter-World-War years, these crafts
are all splendidly maintained and fascinating examples of early, motorized leisure-yachts.
Their silhouettes eerily recall the varied historic periods Port Hercule has lived
through.

Powerboats

These luxury boats under 16 meters (53’) have been designed for both cruising and
racing: the runabouts and the cruisers are leisure boats when racers are more dedicated
to competitions.

Traditional Sailing Yachts

Elegant period yachts and classic yachts from 20 to 60 Meters (66’ to 198’) – racers
and cruisers – all have had highly distinctive personalities bestowed upon them
by their talented Designers.

 ssdelphine
The 257’ SS Delphine will
be one of the largest classic boats in the harbor.

“La Nuit du Yachting”

Highlight of the 8th edition, the Gala Evening “La Nuit du Yachting” will be organised
onboard SS Delphine. During the course of the evening the Yacht Club de
Monaco will announce the winner of the “Personnalité de la Mer” prize, which is
awarded to a person having contributed notable achievements to the yachting world.
