Yacht Transport Companies Merge

Have you ever wanted to spend three months cruising the Med, the Baltic, the Inside Passage to Alaska, or Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, but didn’t want to pay the exurbanite charter rates to do so? Now with the merger of Dockwise LTD, the company that submerges its ships so yachts can steam aboard, and Yacht Path International, a company that specializes in smaller yacht transport as deck cargo, makes yacht transport easier than ever before. Now you can ship your 40-footer to virtually any spot on earth and cruise to your heart’s content.

Yacht Transport
Yachts as deck cargo is an affordable way to go cruising in another part of the world for a summer.

Two full-service yacht transport companies have been merged with Dockwise Yacht Transport buying Yacht Path, it was announced on Monday. While business in the yacht transport market has been slow this year, the folks at Dockwise figure it will come back and when it does they will have one stop shopping for boat owners wishing to enjoy the most exotic cruising venues on earth.

This is a good marriage because Yacht Path specialized in shipping boats up to 80’ in length, while Dockwise specialized in boats up to 200’. So if you have a 40-footer, don’t think you are too small for yacht transport. When you arrive at your destination, you'll discover that your 40-footer is bigger than most of the yachts in that locale (a few places excepted, of course).

Like a lot of other things these days, there are some specials to be had. The following list was copied off of Dockwise’s website and it looks like they have some capacity available for some of their ships that appear to be dead heading. Why not ship your boat in the off season, haul it out in paradise, then launch at the beginning of the season and save on transportation?

Yacht Path Yacht Transport

At Yacht Path, we are more than yacht transit. Far more. We are a full-service concierge, ready to meet your needs at any time and in any ocean. Need specific details about a marina in Hawaii? We’ve got it. Don’t have time for customs paperwork? It’s done. We’ll handle it. In short, we’re happy to go out of our way, even far out of our way, to keep you happy. We want you to call us so that, we hope, you’ll call on us again. This signals our business philosophy of long term service, not one-time transactions.

Last year we moved 300 yachts from one ocean to the other. This is only the result of deliberate and thoughtful planning. Every vessel is carefully inspected and measured before being lifted aboard, and our crews follow a rigorous, well practiced operating procedure. To leave nothing to chance, we naturally check and recheck every clasp, latch, strap, safety tie and restraining line. Then we check them all again. This may take a little longer, and cost us a little more, but it’s time and effort well spent to protect your yacht.
