Flying Carp – It Breaks Lady’s Jaw
Some people are trying to turn lemons into lemonade by using flying Asian carp as sort of skeet for their bows and arrows. That’s right, bow hunters have now become boaters to sharpen their skills with these randomly jumping carp. Bass boats seem to be the platforms of choice. Last summer Jodi Barnes (below)has just fired off an arrow at one Asian carp as another took a shot to her head, breaking her jaw.

“Say honey – what say we go someplace where big, stupid fish jump way out of the water – and do what we can to make them jump higher. Sounds fun, right?”
What you see is a woman’s jaw being broken by a flying Asian carp, and since this whole thing was her fiancé’s idea, the
Underground’s Relationship Counseling Division senses trouble.
![]() Hey, everyone has to make a living. Whatever floats your bass boat. If you can’t shoot ‘em, net ‘em! |
The flying carp victim – a woman named Jodi Barnes – now has her jaw wired shut for the next four weeks, and we’re tempted to feel really sorry for her... until we read the following quote from fiancé (and TV hunter) Chris Brackett:
“We were going really slow because that seems to get them to jump really high,” Brackett said. “Jodi had shot at one and was leaning forward to reel in her arrow when another fish came out of nowhere to her right and then hit her in the jaw.”
Oh. You wanted them to jump real high out of the water.
Turns out Mr. Brackett sells videos of his bow & arrow carp wing-shooting (frankly, we’d just use a 12 gauge), and if you’ve ever spent much time watching TV hunting shows, you’d know that TV fly fishing shows scintillate by comparison (not to mention the virtue thing – TV hunting shows are typically infomercials in disguise).
We wish Ms. Barnes a speedy recovery, though we wonder if carp shooters might not want to consider hockey masks or something...
