Grady-White Canyon 456 | Regency Yachts P65 | Sea Ray 350 SLX
The folks at Grady-White tell us that they conceived and designed the new Canyon 456 to be a luxurious – “no-compromise” – sportfishing yacht with virtually every practical amenity built in that they could imagine. With a 21-degree deadrise at the transom, a 14’ beam, a fuel capacity of 616 gallons (2,332 L) and quad Yamaha 350 outboards, she is intended to go virtually anywhere in most conditions. The level of detail, built-in comfort, and innovation is noteworthy for a boat of this size. Belowdecks, she has a large, standup head, good-sized galley, and a convertible dinette that seats four and sleeps two. But all of that is just the tip of this iceberg.
The Regency P65 is a coastal cruising yacht designed for owner-operators, with more than 700 miles of range at a 10-knot cruise. But she can get up and go with a top speed near 22 knots. Her lines avoid the fashion trap that catches many yachts today, while her comfort features mean she’ll have long-term appeal inside and out.
A standard fiberglass arch with hardtop provides protection for the cockpit of the Sea Ray 350 SLX, and can have an optional sliding sunroof. With a 2.9-second time to plane, she makes a good ski boat despite her size, and the large swim platform provides plenty of space to gear up. She has seating for 18 while underway.
The Galeon 405 HTS comes with standard features including an 8 kW generator, air conditioning, and a Raymarine touch-screen helm. Twin diesel sterndrive power is standard, and the joystick control system was dialed in, making her easier to handle at the docks.
A BoatTEST Member who happens to own a Formula boat and is in the market for a new one has asked us which sterndrive brand he should choose – MerCruiser or Volvo Penta? To answer this question, we have asked the folks at Formula Boats – which has extensive experience of installing both brands in its boats – to give us their perspective on the answer to this question.
