BoatTEST Members Report
“IPS Drives Saved My Marriage”
BoatTEST members who have owned boats powered with Volvo Penta IPS drives continue to tell us about their experiences with them. One new submission, in particular, caught our eye, so we are updating last week’s report. Who among us has not seen a frustrated weekend warrior berating his hapless spouse standing on the bow with a fender and line in hand?

Boston Whaler 350 Realm:
A New High-Speed Weekender
With a sharp forward entry tapering to a 23-degree deadrise at the transom, the Boston Whaler 350 Realm is ready to take on rough water, and 4'2" of freeboard at the bow plus lots of flair should keep her dry in most conditions. The hardtop is standard, as is a 7.5 kW generator plus AC and heat both in the cabin and at the helm. She runs over 50 mph with the triple Mercury Verado 350s.

We Compare Four 26'-31' Dual Consoles:
Which One is Best?

 Robalo R317

 Sailfish 275DC

Today we compare the features of four dual-console boats between 26' and 31' in length. Dual consoles are displacing center consoles as the "go-to" boats for all but true scales-in-their-veins fishing fanatics. Why? Dual consoles have more creature comforts: Better, more comfortable seating; the protection of a full windshield from wind and spray; they can be buttoned up with cruising canvas for rain protection; they are better suited for entertaining and watersports; they have more stowage space; and, in larger models (including the boats in today's comparison), there is room for an enclosed head.

With triple Mercury 350 Verados as the standard power package, the Azimut Verve 40 is a 40-knot express more than ready for a fast trip to the Bahamas or other cruising destinations. Yamaha Articulating Keel:
Improved Tracking, Easier Docking for Jetboats
The Yamaha Articulating Keel system includes a small fixed keel built into the running surface of the company's jet boats, terminating in their unique "articulating keel", which is a steering paddle at the aft end of the hard keel. The hard keel results in straight tracking at speed, while the paddle combined with steerable jet nozzles make the boats much more maneuverable, particularly at low speeds.
