The Next Generation of Mercury Outboards

Mercury 4.6L V-8 Outboards
This morning Mercury Marine announced a new 4.6L V-8 outboard platform to complement the 3.4L V-6 platform that was introduced in February.

Mercury Marine today announced the largest displacement outboard engine it has ever built – a 4.6-liter V-8 outboard that’s naturally aspirated. The new 4-stroke DOHC V-8 platform will be available in four lines – FourStroke, Pro XS, Verado, and Sea Pro – with 11 models running from 200- to 300-hp. This engine, along with the recently introduced 4-stroke 3.4 L V-6 platform, provide new, large-displacement, naturally aspirated outboards from 175- to 300-hp. The 2-stroke OptiMax line has been discontinued and the supercharged in-line 6-cylinder Verado models will be kept only in the 350 and 400 versions.

1,800-HP and 31.1-Knot WOT

Sea Ray L590
Sea Ray L590 Fly

With a sharp forward entry and lots of displacement, the Sea Ray L590 Fly delivered a comfortable ride in choppy seas during our high-speed test runs. She's powered by triple Cummins QSC 8.3s putting out 600-hp each and driving Zeus pods, and our test captain found the fuel economy to be consistent throughout the rpm range.
