In-Depth Look: Mercury’s New 4.6L V8 Outboard | Four Winns HD 240 OB | Vicem 46 IPS
In advance of Mercury’s announcement last Friday of its new V8 4.6L 4-stroke engine, BoatTEST spent two days inspecting the new engines. We tested seven different boats, each with a different engine configuration. The result is that we have a pretty good idea of what these new engines offer and the best applications for them. Over the next several months we will be running complete reports on the engines and boats we tested. Today we start with an in-depth look at what sets the new Mercury V8 apart from other outboards on the market.
Outboard power is not the only way the Four Winns HD 240 OB evokes a sporty feel, since her upholstery, seating layout, and helm console all add to it comfort in style. And topping out at 49.1 MPH, that 250-hp Mercury Verado is icing on the cake.
An impressive level of fit and finish is evident in the matched-grain Khaya mahogany cabinetry and decking throughout the Vicem 46 IPS.
The TRACKER® Pro Team™ 195 TXW delivers tournament-grade performance at a very competitive price of $25,595 including a 150-hp Mercury FourStroke, trailer, trolling motor, deep-cycle batteries, and a Lowrance fishfinder at the console.
The MCY 86 uses technology and touchscreens to make her suitable for an experienced owner/operator, but she’s got enough space for friends and family that owners may want a crew along so they can spend more time with guests.
The World Cat 230 CC draws just 9 inches, making her a superior boat for fishing the flats, chasing bait, or gunkholing, but her sharp twin hulls make her a good performer in rough water.
