The EU Hits American Boats with 25% Tariff

EU Tariff
Carver Yachts reports that it has already had two orders from Europe canceled as a result of the EU’s retaliatory 25% tariff on American-made boats. The boat shown here is a Carver C43.

Last week the European Union announced the immediate imposition of a 25% tariff on many categories of American-built boats. The EU said this was in retaliation for the 10% and 25% American tariff on European aluminum and steel. The previous week Canada announced a 10% tariff on American-built boats starting July 1, in retaliation for America’s recently imposed tariffs on its metal exports to the U.S. Canada is the #1 importer of U.S.-made boats.

Boating-industry sources say that American boat sales to Canada, Mexico and the EU account for 70% of all U.S. boat exports. The retaliatory tariffs are expected to have a dramatic effect on the U.S. boating industry, causing the layoffs of thousands of American workers.

How Do I Get My Boat
Ready for Summer?

uscg report

Boating is exhilarating, but being safe and smart
means everyone has a good day on the water.

Safety is key to having a good day on the water, and it starts with the boat: Make sure the vessel is prepared and inspected properly before leaving the dock. That way, the skipper can pay attention to running the boat, keep a proper watch, monitor the way the boat is running, and have confidence she is ready for the day at hand.

Learn the steps to readying a boat for the water here.
