Carver C52 Command Bridge | Wellcraft 182F | Formula 350 CBR
Carver’s flagship is a 3-stateroom, 2-head flybridge cruiser that has an especially large salon thanks to the positioning of her helm on the flying bridge. With the addition of an optional hardtop and isinglass, as seen in the photo above, she becomes a versatile cruiser that can take on multiple missions from local entertaining, to extended coastal cruising.
The Wellcraft 182F is an entry-level boat and a good choice for families. The available gelcoat colors give this center console the eye-appeal of a sporty runabout. The windshield and hardtop are easily removed to allow the boat and matching Wellcraft trailer to fit in most garages.
Our test captain enjoyed a brisk ride on the Formula 350 CBR pushed by three 350-hp Mercury Verado outboards, with a top speed of 58.0 mph. He found her to be a versatile performance yacht that can be used for entertaining, sunning, and beach outings, with luxurious overnighting capability for weekend cruising. Her 21-degree deadrise delivered an easy ride outside the inlet on a bumpy day.
We tested the Sea Ray Sundancer 400 on a snotty day with 20-knot winds and found she delivered a comfortable ride despite choppy conditions. She's available with twin gas or diesel power to 480-hp, and with sterndrive or V-drive. Belowdecks, buyers can choose from one or two heads in a two-stateroom layout.
The Beneteau Oceanis 38.1 is just the right size for a couple to take daysailing or for a longer cruise, but she offers accommodations below for up to 6. She's equipped with dual helms and rudders, and headsail winches close to the helm stations make single-handed tackling easy. Standard engine is a 30-hp Yanmar Diesel Sail Drive.
