Satellite TV for Boats: Cheaper Than You Think | Special Ilmor One Drive | Tahoe 500 TF
The systems that deliver entertainment, general news, movies, financial news, and sports to boats have gotten more sophisticated and therefore simpler for the end user. As entertainment options have grown and multiplied, so has the range where they can be enjoyed. Look over the systems available and see what dovetails with the needs of your boat and crew. The findings in the table may be a pleasant surprise.
The Ilmor One Drive provides a silent, dependable hydraulic clutch outdrive system with digital electromagnetic shifting for fast, silent gear changes that are particularly important in the age of joystick control. (There is no “clunk.”) Counter-rotating propellers for improved acceleration are standard, as is power-assist steering. This drive unit is designed to handle the prodigious torque of a diesel engine, so is robust, indeed, for gas power.
The large, brightly-lit engine room of the Cheoy Lee Bravo 72 gives the skipper plenty of room to keep tabs on the standard twin 800-hp Volvo Penta IPS1050s. While she has crew’s quarters in addition to her four-stateroom, three-head layout, the Bravo 72 is easily captained by an experienced owner/operator thanks to standard joystick control. Other standard systems include TRAC Stabilization for comfort in a seaway, and a hydraulic swim platform that allows easy launch and retrieval of a tender.
The Tahoe 500 TF has the functionality of a dedicated family runabout, with an oversized swim platform, telescoping four-step ladder, walkthrough transom, and ventilated wakeboard storage in the cockpit sole. Yet she’s also ready for a day of angling action, with a Minn Kota trolling motor, deep-cycle battery and charger, livewell, and swivel fishing seats for bow and stern.
The Formula 400 SS FX powered with twin 520-hp Mercury Racing engines matched to Bravo III XR drives had an impressive WOT of 52.7 mph. She's a luxury performance cruiser with accommodations below for four, including a queen-size mid-cabin berth and a large convertible settee at the bow. Analog gauges at the helm give her the feel of an offshore racer, and her performance backs it up.
The welcoming bow seating of the Sailfish 241 CC looks like it belongs on a bowrider, but like all Sailfish, this one is ready for serious angling. She has a 25-gallon (94.6 L) aerated baitwell at the transom, lots of rod holders and racks, large insulated fish boxes, and she rides on the company's Variable Deadrise Stepped hull, giving her quick planing and beam stability as well as a good ride in a chop.
American Marine is family-owned and operated since 1960 with locations in La Crosse, WI, Trempealeau, WI, and Dubuque, IA. Regardless of location, the dealer prides itself on being a one-stop shop for all things boating. Service, sales, storage, slips, boat rentals, along with a fully-stocked ship’s store and fuel dock for all one’s boating needs.
