Mercury FourStroke 4.6L V-8 Outboard:

Largest Displacement and
Lightest Weight in Class

Mercury FourStroke 4.6L V-8 Outboard
Mercury FourStroke 4.6L V-8 Outboard

The all new Mercury FourStroke 4.6L V-8 outboard is the lightest engine in class despite the fact that it has 8 cylinders and the greatest displacement in class. But new features don’t end there: transient spark technology gives the engine 5 to 10% more torque at the low end, according to Mercury. Our tests confirmed good acceleration from a standing start and a burst of power in the mid RPM range. A computer-controlled throttle that controls the fuel-air mixture automatically leans out mixture at speed and dials in more economical fuel consumption.

What’s New in Electronic Helm Displays?

Whats New in Electronic Helm Displays
The screens on the helm dashboards of today’s boats are brighter and better than ever before. Their displays have simpler user interfaces and they’re backed up by more powerful computer processors that allow onboard systems to be integrated fully.

All boat owners owe it to themselves to know what’s out there, so when the time comes to get a new boat or make changes to the helm, they know what’s available. That’s where this BoatTEST research table comes in: Numerous systems and their capabilities are all listed here, with an easily selectable “compare” feature, so it’s easy to see how the systems stack up. Figure out what’s important, have a look at the table, and assemble the building blocks of the dream helm.

She is owner/operator friendly, thanks in part to three control stations with joysticks linked to the twin Volvo Penta IPS950s, including one on the aft deck. Her hull lamination is with the vacuum resin infusion process and she is cored with PVC foam. Overall, Cruisers Yachts uses “best practices” in her construction, even though they are more expensive and labor intensive than many brands on the market.
