Bullet 21SST:
100 MPH Bass Boat!
As a demonstration of the amazing power available in their 300R (R for Racing) outboard, Mercury set up a 1,300-pound (589 kg) dry weight Bullet 21SST bass boat for maximum speed runs at their Florida Lake X test facility several months ago. She didn’t fail to produce: with a professional high-speed driver at the wheel (we would never run any boat that fast), the rig ran an amazing 103 mph, according to the techs at Mercury – in writing. The 300R has a 4.6-liter 4-stroke V-8 built by Mercury Racing. With shorter runners on the intake manifold, dual overhead cams with a more-aggressive grind, a SportMaster lower unit, a maximum rpm of 6400 RPM, which is about 200 more than the 300 Pro XS, plus a special water-skimming 32” cleaver prop, she broke the 100-mph barrier.
