Where Only Best Practices Survive

Many people forget that Hatteras was the first company to start building fiberglass motoryachts and convertibles in 1959. Building a top-quality yacht was always the company’s credo, and along the way Hatteras assembled the most knowledgeable staff of yacht engineers and craftsmen in the business. They had only one way of doing things – the best way. The “best way” has evolved over time as technology has improved, but the Hatteras culture is the same – now, it is called “best practices.” Hatteras yachts meet or exceed ABYC standards in all areas, and in many cases, they wrote the standards for the ABYC, in the first place. Today, we look at the right way to install plumbing and wiring on a multi-million-dollar yacht.

Intrepid Boats 407 Panacea:

Advanced Hull Design, Improved Ride

The Intrepid 407 Panacea rides on a single-step bottom that has a 22-degree deadrise at the transom. That’s a bit deeper than on many new boats this size we see coming out these days, and it means a more comfortable ride. Intrepid designs the bottom with a forward panel that is at a steeper longitudinal angle and cuts through waves rather than pounding into them.

Required Boat Safety Gear

USCG regulations require that a number of safety items be carried on every boat, according to size. It is the operator’s responsibility to make sure that all required equipment is aboard. The coast guard conducts random checks of recreational boats, and if the required equipment is not aboard, the vessel will have to return -- with the USCG vessel -- to the nearest port. It could ruin your whole day.
