Charter Cruising to Alaska with Mother Goose
One of the very best cruising grounds in the world is the Inside Passage from Bellingham, Washington to Skagway, Alaska – 1,700 miles of mostly protected water through some of the most pristine nature left on the planet. Every year, NW Explorations runs a flotilla of five charter boats – plus the Mother Goose. As its name implies, Mother Goose and her five person crew lead the way, but they also provide a remarkable concierge service. This summer we went back for our second Mother Goose cruise in 10 years, and we’ve already signed up for our third, given the fact that our summers are in short supply.
What follows is a report on what the NW Explorations Mother Goose Flotilla is all about. Let us just say that in 50 years of boating, it is one of the very best bareboat chartering experiences we have ever had. And, we’re not the only ones that feel that way. Of 40 charter legs for the summer of 2019 cruise, 32 have already been booked, and only eight remain available. You could be one of the lucky ones next summer.

The wide variety of cowling color choices on the 150 H.O. Evinrude E-TEC makes it possible to match the trim of almost any boat, including the Larson FX 1850 DC. The high tech two-stroke pushed the 2,400-pound (1,089 kg) hull to a top speed of 44.1 mph in our tests, while at a cruise of 23.8 mph she got 5.6 mpg. The dual-console has an aerated livewell, rod storage, and bow and stern casting decks, and could also function as a family watersports platform.

Easy to Sail and Improved Layouts
The Beneteau Oceanis 38.1, the improved version of the Oceanis 38, includes upgrades such as additional layouts and a new galley design. Beneteau took it a step further by improving quality in key areas of the boat. This boat carries its 13’1” (3.99 m) beam far aft to create more space below deck and on deck the wide beam adds stability, accommodates her twin rudders, and allows for a more generous cockpit.
