Stingray 212SC Deck Boat:
New Mercury V-6 on a Sled
Build a boat light and narrow, with a relatively low deadrise, and she will scoot. Powered with Mercury’s new 3.4-liter V-6 FourStroke, the Stingray 212SC Deck Boat delivered on performance, with hole shot times of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 53.2 mph. World Cat 280DC-X:
Cats are Catching On
Of all of the boating markets around the world, the U.S. market is one of the slowest to embrace innovation. Power cats are one good example of a type of boat that is popular all over the world, but is just now getting traction in the U.S. American boaters are generally wary of something different, and competitive monohull dealers are brutal in discussing them. We have made two videos that accompany our report on the World Cat 280: one on how to drive them and one on their advantages.

The front of the console on the Robalo R180 swings open to reveal a storage area that was fitted with the optional Porta-Potti on our test boat. The compartment has artificial light, and is large enough for sitting head room. Note the rack for hanging a change of clothes or rain gear. There’s added storage at the bow in a 25 1/2- gallon (96.5 L) fish box/cooler that drains overboard.

Jeanneau NC 33:
Engineered for the Owner/Operator
Jeanneau is known for clever engineering that allows owner/operators to get the most out of their yachts, and the helm layout of the Jeanneau NC 33 is a case in point. She has a sliding door for the skipper adjacent the helm, allowing a full view of the entire starboard side of the boat during docking operations, and there’s an opening side door in the bulwarks here as well, making single-handed tie-ups far easier. When underway, the sliding door also brings plenty of fresh air into the interior.

|
|
The boat involved was a 26’6” (8.08 m) workboat.
|
The U.K. has a division called the Marine Accident Investigation Branch. It investigates nearly all vessel sinkings, or serious accidents, even when there is no loss of life. Happily, in case #19, the one we are looking at today, the occupants of the boat were rescued just as the boat dropped below the waves. But why did this fiberglass boat -- which should have been well maintained -- sink?

Based on the feedback we’ve been getting about BoatTEST.com's Video Boating Course it’s clearly not only for beginners, but also for veteran boaters as well.
