Fleming Yachts 55:
Genuine Teak and Lots of It
Truly fine woodworking and flawless fit and finish bring a whole different level of satisfaction to owning some yachts. The Fleming Yachts 55 is a case in point—note the lavish use of real teak throughout the galley area, and such useful touches as raised edges on the counters to help keep things in place while underway. Fleming buys teak logs, ages the wood, and does all its own mill work. The tables, valances, entertainment center, and cabinetry are all teak, as is the decking in most areas.

Fountaine Pajot MY 37:
Light is Right for Catamarans
It is important in catamarans to keep the build light. The lighter it is, the more weight-carrying capacity it has, the faster it can go, and seakeeping abilities are enhanced. The twin hulls of the Fountaine Pajot MY 37 are built with resin-infused, parquet-style balsa coring resulting in a hull that’s light but strong and rigid. End-grained balsa core is also more puncture-resistant than is PVC foam, which many builders use.

Thursday #1
Evinrude iDock:
Lowest-Cost Joystick on the Market
All outboard engines cost about the same in any given horsepower, give or take a few hundred dollars. But what does not cost the same are their joystick systems. When these systems first came out they were expensive, and obviously the companies involved had spent millions on R&D which needed to be recouped. But over the years the prices didn’t drop much because boat owners have been so eager to have easy docking they were willing to pay $14,000 or more for them. Now, Evinrude sells its Joystick system for $5,999. When these savings are added to a pair of high-hp engines, Evinrude beats all of the 4-strokes, hands down, on price. We’ve tested them, and they are just as good as the others, and have better features than some.
