Excellent Main Helm Design
As we have noted before, we think that the Neptunus 650 Fly is like a breath of fresh air, and the total feel is the sum of her parts. For example, the helm of the Neptunus 650 Fly can be pretty much whatever the buyer wants thanks to the company’s ability to custom build the interior spaces. We like the practical lower helm design because the screens and their brow are kept low to maximize forward visibility – not high as we see on many motoryachts that partially obscure the windshield. Likewise, the steering wheel hub is at the height of the control dash for handy reaching whether standing or sitting. This is more of the kind of layout that we see on commercial vessels where visibility comes first, and gadgets second.

Chaparral 250 SunCoast OB:
Easy Access Swim Platform
The Chaparral 250 SunCoast OB deckboat includes a broad walkthrough between the cockpit and the swim platform, opening up this venue for swimming and watersports. Note the bracket to hold a ski pylon is in the center of the passageway. The aft-facing seats on the platform have compartments under, with the battery switches to starboard and the batteries themselves to port. The swim platform extends to either side of the outboard, providing two good places to launch watersports.

Hatteras GT 54:
Integral Fuel Tank is “Best Practices”
The Hatteras GT 54 has an integral, glassed-in fiberglass fuel tank that uses the hull of the boat as its bottom and the stringers for its sides. With baffles to keep fuel from sloshing around, the designers have taken significant weight out of the boat and lowered its CG, making her more stable in the process. This integral tank also effectively creates a second bottom in the area of the tank. The bottom is solid fiberglass, while the hull above the waterline is a structural Divinycell “sandwich” to save additional weight. This construction method is far superior to the use of aluminum fuel tanks that we often see, which can corrode, or come lose in challenging conditions, and are usually higher, thus raising the CG.

Best Seat in the House
The Pronautica 29 Open offers the best seat in the house across the aft transom, which will give anglers the softest ride anytime the boat is run in choppy water at speed. Note the fixed neoprene floor mats used throughout, giving a very “grippy” surface as well as one that’s easy on bare feet and dropped tackle. A 13-gallon (49 L) livewell is under the seating on the port side, and built into the deck are two 27-gallon (102 L) insulated, self-draining storage compartments that could be used as fishboxes.
