Boston Whaler 380 Realm:
New Crossover for Weekending
A new and growing category of boats is called “crossover.” This kind of boat can be a center console like the Boston Whaler 380 Realm that mixes the center console concept with accommodations below, or they can be express boats that mix cruising accommodations with attributes of an open dayboat. The Boston Whaler 350 Realm introduced over a year ago is the most popular “Crossover” on BoatTEST, and now Whaler has introduced her big sister. The 380 Realm is set up for weekending and dayboating, and that means the “outdoor kitchen”, seen above, is likely to see lots of use. There is an electric grill, and slide-out refrigerator/ice maker. Below there are comfortable accommodations.

1st MLF Tournament Won by
The Come-From-Behind Kid
Jordon Lee, the 27-year old Alabama whiz kid who has taken professional bass fishing by storm in recent years, put another $100,000 notch on his belt Sunday, winning the inaugural Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour event with a virtuoso performance on Florida’s Lake Garcia. The venue for the final day of the event moved the top 10 finishers from the Kissimmee Chain to Garcia, a 3,000-acre impoundment west of Vero Beach, to give the anglers a shot at less-pressured water.

Ocean Craft 9.5 M:
Builder-Specified Evinrude E-TEC G2s for Dependability
The Ocean Craft 9.5 M is designed for military and first-responder use, which means everything going into these specialized boats must meet high standards of strength and reliability. For that reason, the builder specified twin Evinrude E-TEC G2 300s. These engines have over 100 fewer parts than conventional 4-stroke outboards, the internal steering and gear shift are impervious to the elements, the magneto electrical system is not vulnerable to slipping and breaking belts, and the internal lube reservoir is protected from supply damage, making them highly reliable.

Riviera 395 SUV:
“Writing Desk” on Functional Platform
We tested a Riviera 395 SUV with an optional fiberglass “writing desk” bolted onto the aft safety rail on the stern platform. It has a flip up lid to store tools and gloves, and the top can be used as a cutting board when cleaning fish. There are rod holders on the sides and cup holders on the aft ledge. It appears to be a fun place to fish from when trolling for small fish in quiet waters. The transom platform of the Riviera 395 SUV is functional, with a fold out bin for lines and fenders, and a BBQ grill and sink facing aft.
