The optional fiberglass top shading the flybridge of the Prestige Yachts 590 functions as a design feature as well as for protection from sunburn and a place to mount antennas. Note its cantilevered design with only two small diameter stainless steel stanchions forward, giving an unobstructed view. A Bimini folding top is also available. The 590 has been recently redesigned and is much more functional.

Outboard power is becoming increasingly popular on sportboats and bowriders, but in many, the transom-mounted engines leave only small platforms port and starboard and little more than a catwalk between them. That’s not the case with the Four Winns Horizon 350 OB, where the swim platform has 3’5” (1.04 m) of space for hanging out and launching watersports on each side of the outboards. Three adults can sit on the electronically-adjustable aft bench seat, which has adjacent audio controls and cup holders.

Robalo 226 Cayman:
Extended V-Plane Hull Adds Performance
The “Extended V-Plane Hull” design of the Robalo 226 extends the running surface 14” (36 cm) abaft the engine mount, adding buoyancy which assists rapid planing as well as in staying on plane at lower speeds, both a plus when operating on the flats. The test boat, powered with a Yamaha F200, planed in just 3.4 seconds with two aboard and a full fuel tank, an indication that the design works as intended.

Evinrude’s “black box” repower rigging system allows a manual system to be converted to digital when repowering an old rig. The steering and throttle black box costs just $950 per engine.
