Find Out Why We Like This Anchor

For the last several years we have been seeing ULTRA anchors on more and more boats. We have inquired to both the owners of the boats and the boat builders which are putting them on as standard equipment, and we have gotten the same answer from all – a tremendous anchor. Last summer a BoatTEST staff member used one in Alaska anchoring in sand, rock and mud, and he reports it set every time on the first try. Then, we did more research. The ULTRA anchor is a highly-engineered and an impressively-functional piece of equipment. The cast stainless-steel shaft is hollow, while the base is lead-filled. It has a clever self-righting design, this causes the anchor to land right side up and in the “attack” position every time. The anchors are available in weights from 11 lb. (5 kg) to 771 lb. Robalo Rigs Evinrude Outboards

Taken together, Mercury and Yamaha have locked up a high percent of center console boat builders so they are restricted from giving their customers a choice of outboard brand. But, Robalo has remained independent, and gives its customers a choice of Evinrude, Yamaha or Mercury. We have tested the boat with a Evinrude, and found that it has excellent performance. The Robalo R247 has a beam of 8’9”, more than wide enough to fit twin Evinrude E-TEC G2 150-hp outboards on the transom, giving the redundancy that’s always a plus in a boat likely to be run offshore. We recorded a top speed of 45.1 mph at 5700 rpm. It took 3.2 seconds to plane, 4.8 seconds to 20 mph, and 6.9 seconds to 30 mph. Our best cruise came in at 26.8 mph at 3500 rpm, which yielded 2.68 mpg and a 325-statute mile range from the 135-gallon tank, with a 10% reserve.

Yamaha SX210

The design of the bow peak compartment on the Yamaha SX 210 gives an indication of the smart, practical engineering seen throughout. It contains a rack for the anchor, line stowage, and the four-step telescoping bow ladder. The hatch is held open with a gas-assist support strut… and we appreciate the lift and lock latch over the turn and lock latch that never seems to be turned in the right direction. The composite reinforcing bracket on the aft side of the cover fits into the slots on the anchor rack, securing it in place and preventing rattling while underway.
