Beneteau Swift Trawler 47:
Coastal Cruiser w/26.0 Knots at WOT
As the name indicates, the Beneteau Swift Trawler 47 is a trawler design, which implies making an excellent home afloat for extended cruising and a range approaching 1,000 NM at 9 knots. But when conditions call for it, she can get up and go, with a top speed of 26.0 knots in our tests. At 2400 rpm (about 80 percent power) the twin Cummins QSB’s pushed her at 17.5 knots and gave a range of about 378 NM from her 510-gallon fuel tankage, with a 10% reserve.

The strakes and chines are mechanically pressed into the single sheet of 5052 marine aluminum .100” thick that forms the variable-deadrise hull. The Power-Trac offset transom provides for quicker holeshot and better overall performance, per the company. The baked powder-coat paint is covered in a clear coat for a finish that’s hard to match on aluminum hulls.

Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless:
Versatile CC is Fast, Dry and Seaworthy
The Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless has a sharp forward entry as well as an 18-degree deadrise at the transom, both assisting in softening the ride in choppy water. Broad hard chines help her get on plane quickly (3.3 seconds in our test runs) and these chines are carried all the way to the bow, helping to keep spray down as well as providing lift when she’s run hard down-sea. She’s fast, topping out at just over 50 mph in our tests with twin 200 Mercury FourStrokes. Whaler notes that with the optional twin 225’s, she runs better than 56 mph.

Riviera Belize 66 Sedan:
Garage for RIB Outboard Tender
The launch and retrieval of the tender aboard the Riviera Belize 66 Sedan, a Brig F330L with a 30-hp outboard, is made practical through a simple setup where rails are manually placed in receivers in the hydraulic swim platform and the crew can then slide out the tender. The platform is lowered via the wireless remote. The starboard end of the swim platform is fixed, does not lower, but has stairs to make it easy to get to the lowered platform.

Chaparral 223 VRX:
Lateral Thrust System for Easy Docking
Jet boats are fun but some can be a handful at low speeds around the docks. That’s not the case with the Chaparral 223 VRX, as we learned in our tests. This is primarily because the twin Rotax 4-Tech 205-hp jet systems are equipped with the “Lateral Thrust System”, a thrust deflector bucket attached aft of the steering nozzle—see the cutaway. It’s elongated, with open ends allowing the thrust to come out the sides when in neutral or reverse. The result is better control at low speeds.
