Pardo Yachts 43:

Elegant Luxury Dayboat w/Berth Below

Pardo Yachts 43
Pardo Yachts 43

Take a good look at this boat – she, and others like her, are the wave of the day boating future. They are called “Luxury Day Boats” as opposed to sportboats or bowriders. It’s a new type of boat that has been germinating in Europe for the last 10 years or so, and now they are coming to America. Above is the Pardo Yachts 43 from Italy. At first to the American eye she may seem odd-looking, or impractical, or wet, or a flash in the pan. We have tested her and can report she is none of the latter, and once the eye becomes accustomed to her shapes, she will become beautiful. The Pardo Yachts 43 stands out as a premium-grade dayboat by bringing together bold Italian design elements including an axe bow, vertical topsides, carbon-fiber T-top, an open transom like a modern racing sailboat, and a grand al fresco dining table aft. She also fits a small salon and double berth forward belowdecks, as well as two single berths amidships. Note the cutout at the bow, which hides the optional automated anchor system. Twin 435-hp Volvo Penta’s are located amidships for best balance, connected to IPS drives aft by jack-shafts.

The Hargrave 100 is a near-custom build. Among the many options, the buyer can choose a huge main-deck master, as seen here, plus four en suites below, or a master and two en suites all below decks, with a country-kitchen with spectacular view forward on the main deck in place of the master. All Hargrave buyers have full control of the décor design process. This particular Hargrave 100 has its color palette platinum, pearl whites and pale taupes. NW Explorations:

Powerboat Training Courses

NW Explorations
Develop your boating skills and get hands-on training while embarking on a three-day NW Explorations training course in Bellingham, WA.

NW Explorations offers three-day powerboat training courses that take its students around the San Juan Islands in Puget Sound as they learn to safely operate a state-of-the-art powerboat. This course provides the best of both worlds – gaining hands-on experience while exploring the beautiful San Juan Islands. These training courses give students the chance to enhance their yacht-handling skills while building their confidence and meeting new friends. Learning points for courses include anchoring, navigation, route planning and best docking practices. Each trip starts off Friday evening with a social hour before training begins Saturday morning and goes until Monday afternoon. Students will spend the first night at one of the San Juan’s scenic anchorages and the second night docked in a marina. NW Explorations also offers a three-day training course that is specifically tailored to women. If you can’t make one of the spring training courses, private instruction is also available. The NW Explorations training courses and the boats used are first rate, and BoatTEST recommends them both. Click here to learn more and

Formula 400 SSC:

Large Multi-Function Swim Platform

Formula 400 SSC
Formula 400 SSC

Easy access to the water can be somewhat of an issue on certain outboard-powered boats, but not on the Formula 400 Super Sport Crossover. She has an extended swim platform between the cockpit and the transom where the quad Mercury Verado 350’s are mounted. A portable 4-step ladder makes re-boarding easy from either side, and there’s a freshwater shower to port for a quick rinse when coming back aboard. Optional racks to hold a pair of standup paddleboards add versatility to this space. The deck is on a single level from bow to engine mounts, eliminating stubbed toes.

Jaguar J32:

69.8 MPH WOT w/2x Evinrude E-TEC G2 250s

Jaguar J32
Jaguar J32 [E-TEC G2 250 H.O.]

The Jaguar J32 is essentially a racing power catamaran, but equipped with a pair of Evinrude E-TEC G2 250-hp two-strokes and loaded with fishing essentials, she becomes a very, very fast offshore fishing boat. In our test runs, the high-tech outboards – turning 15 x 24, 4-blade SS props – went 0-20 in 4.5 seconds and had a top speed of 69.8 mph. Of course, there are few days when most anglers will want to bear the punishment that’s part of going that fast offshore on anything but a dead-calm day. But the fuel-efficient engines produced a cruise of 45.3 mph at 4000 rpm, delivering 2.2 mpg for a range of 335 SM with the 170-gallon fuel capacity. That kind of speed considerably shortens the ride and adds a lot to fishing time – and thrills

Boston Whaler 315 Conquest:

Offshore Fisherman Sleeps 4

Boston Whaler 315 Conquest
Boston Whaler 315 Conquest

For serious anglers who want to make a night of it far offshore on a calm night, or anchored off a distant island, the Boston Whaler 315 Conquest offers a mid-cabin berth for two plus a convertible lounge forward where the team can sleep. Our tests proved she’s got the speed to get out there quickly: WOT with the optional twin 300 Mercury Verado’s was 47.5 mph or 41.3 knots. Her 300-gallon fuel tank – one of the largest in class – gives her a range of 308 nmiles at 4500 rpm at 28.8 knots. At trolling speed around 5 mph, she gets 2.4 mpg.

Yamaha 425 XTO Gains Traction

uscg report

Here we see a running shot of a pair of the new Yamaha 425 XTO from a test we performed last week.

Last summer, Yamaha introduced its new 5.6 L 4-stoke 425-hp XTO outboard. We started testing boats with these units on them last winter and now those tests are beginning to make their way onto the pages of BoatTEST in real numbers. The engines quickly captured the imaginations of the builders of all types of boats. The power boats range from pontoon boats to offshore cruisers, with many center consoles from a number of brands. To check out the specs of this mighty engine,
